JanCderidder Posted July 17, 2010 Share #1  Posted July 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) All I want to say is;  - it's slow - Focussing could be better - it's very expensive  but it makes the most fantastic, marvelous pictures I have ever taken. It slips into my Camel field jacket easily, it's a pleasure to touch and feel and as I said the images are fantastic.  Before purchasing mine, second hand, I read all the postings, the ups and downs... blablablabla etc..... but it exceeds my expectations.  I am an old M4 and M6 user having found the M8 and 9 to expensive but the X1 solves it all. The 35mm being my lens of choice even with the M4 and 6.  Bravo Leica ....

Patrick Delaney Posted July 20, 2010 Share #10  Posted July 20, 2010 Welcome to the ward. Remember to take your meds. (I've been taking mine for 43 years now.) Face it: one can't call this Leica affliction a rational thing, can we?  -g  But it's perfectly rational. I used Nikons for 18 years for landscapes; got an M6 for people in 1988; tried a roll of Kodachrome 25 for landscapes with Nikon and Leica lenses at selection of apertures, and guess what? Even without using a lupe the Leica lenses beat the Nikon's every time for contrast and modelling. I've not used Nikons since. I go for quality, not price - and I've got very little money! Patrick Delaney Posted July 20, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted July 20, 2010 I need a digital Leica and have been dithering over the X1 since last November. Trouble is my 'normal' lenses have always been 28 mm - 35 is a little cramped - a nothing lens - neither wide nor 50 mm 'normal'. However the reports I've seen have convinced me that the X1 is great for image quality and high ISO without flash (can't stand 'flashy' pictures). So, to hell with house renovation: here's to getting an X1 (and my family committing me to a loony bin).
davidhunternyc Posted July 20, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted July 20, 2010 Patrick, forget going to the looney bin. I just got my X1 yesterday and I am thrilled with it. You are not going to be called crazy but you are going to be called a snob. I don't get it. This is reverse discrimination. Where is Gloria Allred when you need her? So, to hell with house renovation: here's to getting an X1 (and my family committing me to a loony bin). Â I'm lucky with the X1 specs. I have owned some DSLR's and digital compacts as well as quite a lot of Leica analog equipment. As for lenses I love the 35mm angle, I have used zoom, even high quality zooms but couldn't find the right feeling with them, they get in my way when structuring my image. I have a 35mm view and can just put the camera to my eye and am sure that I have got the right composition, the composition I wanted that is. I have the 24 and 28, as well as the 50, 75 and 90 for my M4 but no lens used more than my 35mm, and the X1 35mm is exceptionally good

I haven't experienced such discrimination yet, on contrary. After discovering the quality of pictures the camera produces, most of my family is eager to shoot with the X1.
