Advertisement Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Hi likalar, Take a look here Bowling Alley, '60 Chevrolet, Pacifica, California. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lagrassa Posted July 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2010 Larry: Very cool! Regards, Michael.
samwells Posted July 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 8, 2010 Larry: Great shot, with some lovely succulent primary colors; I like the way the reds are echoed diagonally across the frame. Very cool, indeed! cheers: Sam
daveleo Posted July 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 8, 2010 Larry, the punchy colors grabbed me . . . the bold cropping threw me off for a while . . . then the lines and shapes fell into place. nice work. . . . very nice!
likalar Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 8, 2010 Sam, Dave, and Michael, Thank you! I tried this in b-w but the color seemed better; glad you liked it. Larry
stuny Posted July 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2010 Larry - I think it is a '59, and I'm not familiar with the Pacifica name, and suspect it is a Canadian market version of a BelAire. I really like the geometric play, the compositon and the oversaturated colors, though I'm not so sure about the soft focus.
likalar Posted July 9, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted July 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Larry - I think it is a '59, and I'm not familiar with the Pacifica name, and suspect it is a Canadian market version of a BelAire. I really like the geometric play, the compositon and the oversaturated colors, though I'm not so sure about the soft focus. Thanks Stuart The '59 had rounder horizontal tail fins, the '60 became more angular. This one is a USA car; you're right, it's a BelAire, but Pacifica is the town where the bowling alley is. Thanks for looking! Larry
lagrassa Posted July 9, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2010 I think it's a '60. The '59 had more upswept, angular swooping fins. '59 was a bad year for many (most) American car designs IMHO. Exception being the '59 Caddy which was such a work in excess, it became iconic.
Leicabatoutahell Posted July 14, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 14, 2010 I remember back then that some Police depts bought these and reported that during really high speed chases those fins could catch enough air to actually lighten the traction of the rear of the car so much that they lost control of the vehicle
Doug A Posted August 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 2, 2010 A great photo. The building and the car work together well. The red curb draws attention to the enormous rear overhang of the car. That detail would be lost in B&W. And it is indeed a '60 Chevrolet.
topoxforddoc Posted August 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 2, 2010 Larry, True Americana. The super saturated colours really suit the subject, which is elegant and kitsch in equal measure. Best wishes,
likalar Posted August 3, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted August 3, 2010 Charlie, Steve, Michael, Curmudgeon, Thanks! A bowling alley and old Chevy are a good match; I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I did your comments. Larry
roguewave Posted September 16, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2010 Larry, I always loved this spot. The old place has seen it's share of characters. Isn't this an early Impala?
likalar Posted September 17, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted September 17, 2010 Ben, this is a 1960 Chevy Bel Air. The Impala version is nearly identical, but has a bit more glitz. The Biscayne was the cheapest, followed by Bel Air, then Impala. Larry
