george + Posted July 14, 2006 Share #21 Posted July 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Erl, the number of posts is marked on the left side under your name. It is of no interest to most of us. So why bother putting it there? The militaristic nomenclature of new user, user, etc., is on the top. In German. As to the shouting, I apologize for the large letters, it did not show on my Firefox browser but it sure looks big on MS Explorer. Sorry. The commercials were here on the left side, you are right, they are not there today. As to being grateful to Leica; you must be kidding. Most of us have spent small fortunes on the often excellent products of this company to expect this service in the 21sr century. As to the rest, we will have to agree to disagree. By the way, I wrote a private note to you yesterday. Did you read it? Cheers. :)

stunsworth Posted July 14, 2006 Share #25 Posted July 14, 2006 Hi Gesoge, yes many of us have spent large amounts of money buying Leica kit over the years. But they have in recent years lost large amounts of money in it's production. Personally I'm grateful that Leica have provided funding for the forum - even if it took a lot of persuasion on Andreas' part to stop them abandoning it all together. robert_parker Posted July 14, 2006 Share #26 Posted July 14, 2006 Steve Whilst I can see where you're coming from, ultimately I don't think the consumer can be concerned with the economics of production - the company either meets a market expectation of excellence and satisfies the demands and expectations of what in most cases is a high net worth client base who look to provide repeat business, or it doesen't. The running of a website 'in house' ultimately doesen't come across as a particularly significant overhead, anyway. Ultimately I think cutting the forum was a bad marketing decision, which Leica will most likely loose out on in money terms. Nevertheless, the situation is that Leica's been real clumsy, Andreas has done well and were here anyway, so back to posting photographs.

rafael_macia Posted July 15, 2006 Author Share #28 Posted July 15, 2006 Interesting. I think now; after reading what has been said above, that the different categories of membership levels in the old Forum (ie. Advanced,Senior,New ... etc.) meant nothing. Findus Posted July 15, 2006 Share #30 Posted July 15, 2006 I'm sure the "old" multi-thread add-on specialists will resurect within the near future... all it takes it quite some time and a vivid inwardly drawn imagination. I would suggest cutting the amount of threads, it's of no use what so ever and then yet, people thrive on this number, adding multitudes of non info threads every opportunity they get.... lets get radical and cut the amount of thread listing ! Appart from that lets also cut the titles, the amount of Dr's this and that ... ridiculous why do this on a forum, if you want expose, have it tattood on your forehead, print posters and hang it in front of your windows, but showing yourself off here ... as if being a Dr. improves your status.... ptomsu Posted July 16, 2006 Share #33 Posted July 16, 2006 James I too can't see how it matters. Whether someone's posted 1 message or 4000, it's _what_ they post that matters. Just because some of us post a lot doesn't mean our opinions are anymore important than someone posting for the first time :-) I exactly agree with you, BUT unfortunately had to learn different in the past. There are some members just counting the number of posts and the more posts one has the more credibility he(she) has.
