Advertisement Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Hi sfage, Take a look here New R mount. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted June 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2010 Tamron used to have R mounts in their line up. But that was 30 years ago.
spydrxx Posted June 22, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2010 I assume you mean a lens in an R mount, right? There are a number of older Tamron lenses which use the Adaptall II interchangeable mount system. For instance I periodically use a Tamron 17mm f3.5 lens on my SL2 and R8. jaapv Posted June 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2010 M lenses don't focus to infinity on an R camera anyway - the register distance is far too short.

You might be able to get the Schneider PC-Super Angulon in an R mount, too. Didn't Angenieux do some zoom lenses, too? Nick

Didn't Angenieux do some zoom lenses, too? Nick I shouldn't think you could easily get the Schneider badged variant of the PC Super Angulon in an R mount, since it is the very same lens that they (Schneider) supply to Leica on an OEM basis. But second-hand Leica branded lenses are readily available for not too much money.

andybarton Posted June 22, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 22, 2010 Why not just buy R glass? It's cheap.
sfage Posted June 23, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted June 23, 2010 As silly as it sounds, I'd like new glass.
adan Posted June 23, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 23, 2010 Well, there is some "new-old-stock" Leica R glass still out there at the moment. I know the place linked below had at least a couple of zooms a month or so ago (80-200 f/4, 28-70(?), maybe a 50 f/2) NOT on their web site - you'll need to call and talk to a manager specifically about Leica R stock. Mike's Camera - Colorado's Largest Selection of Digital Cameras and Photo Services! If in Europe - I think these are the folks who bought out Leica's remaining new stock when they ceased production: MEISTER CAMERA Berlin: Leica R Objektive or MEISTER CAMERA Hamburg: Home Looks like they might have 3-4 "new" lenses still around (although my German isn't good enough to be sure). Other than those (and you might try some Hong Kong outlets as well) - "new" and "Leica R" are pretty much mutually exclusive these days. I wouldn't expect C/V to put out lenses for cameras no longer being built - unless they also get into making Canon FD mount, or lenses for Beseler Topcons. (Edit - there are some new R-mount lenses via that big auction site, too - including Zenitar fisheye and a pinhole lens cap as well as a couple of Leica-made lenses)
andybarton Posted June 23, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 23, 2010 It was shphoto in Germany that had Leica's new stock, IIRC.
adan Posted June 23, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 23, 2010 Could be - they do seem to have some new-old-stock in any case

wizard Posted June 23, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 23, 2010 Any new-old-stock R lenses will most likely NOT fit an SL2 (note that the OP is looking for glass to fit his SL2), as these new-old-stock lenses will be ROM equipped. To find new-old-stock lenses WITHOUT ROM means to look for the needle in the haystack. That said, there are enough collector's lenses out there in as new condition to fit an SL2. JBA Posted June 24, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 24, 2010 Given what a bargain used Leica R glass is these days, it makes little sense to hanker after 3rd-party lenses. Newer is not always necessarily better. Some old timers have assured me that the Leicaflex-era 35 Summicron-R is optically far superior to the newer version with the built-in hood because the newer version vignettes while the old one doesn't. And the 180 3.4 Apo, though long out of production, can hold its own for sharpness against any newer version. Also, you will want to get 3-cam lenses for the SL2, in case you don't already know this.
