dannirr Posted June 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a long time Leica user, including two M8's and approx 10 film cameras. It is inexcusable to me that Leica's service to the US in terms of M9 availability has taken such a low priority in the company. I find it astonishing, that so many months after introduction of the camera, it is still virtually impossible to get one. My loyalty is waning fast. Advertisement Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Hi dannirr, Take a look here USA delivery unacceptable. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AlanJW Posted June 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2010 Understandable but then why not just put yourself on a dealer's list. I put myself on a list on 9/9 and had to wait until the end of November. But I did get it and As soon as I did I was no longer frustrated. If you want to stay frustrated, stay passive. Leica has a hit on it's hands. That's a good thing except when you have to wait while supply catches up with demand. That is not astonishing.
jaapv Posted June 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2010 Is there any reason why the USA should have preferential treatment? The camera is difficult to find anywhere, because demand is higher than supply.
zeitz Posted June 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2010 Jaap, the USA got NO cameras from late March until late May. That is right, NO M9s. Not a single one. That is confirmed by three of the largest dealers, including Dale Photo in Miami and EP Levine in Boston. So this is not speculation. Even now, there is little proof of any significant deliveries. We're not asking for more than our share. We are asking for some cameras.
dannirr Posted June 5, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted June 5, 2010 I don't think the US should get priority. It just happens to be where I am and I can only speak for my experience, not others.
Nikkor AIS Posted June 5, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 5, 2010 Iv giving up trying to get one. The good part is Iv got my eye on a really nice black Leica MP in mint condition. Im not bitter, Im just happy with my Nikon D3's for digital and Leica M for film. Im not really missing anything shooting with a M6/M7 Im I ?. As far as Lecia's M9 production, you cant push a rope, and I sure Leica is making the M9 just as fast as they can. Gregory
V_kids Posted June 5, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Indonesia, we only have one M9 available since September last year.... imagine that!! until today, still no M9 in Indonesia. I bought my M9 from SIngapore

That is confirmed by three of the largest dealers, including Dale Photo in Miami and EP Levine in Boston. [...]. This is from the perspective of the so-called largest dealers. Please bear in mind that they may not have received any M9 but that certainly does not mean other smaller dealers did not receive any. I got mine in late April (early May) from a small dealer. Samalmoe Posted June 5, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 5, 2010 Email a bunch of dealers and you,ll find one. I got my m9 and a not .95 that way in one day. Both from small dealers
Walt Calahan Posted June 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 5, 2010 Meanwhile how many millions of iPods has Apple sold in two months, with European and Asia getting their about a week ago? By the time the M9 is available throughout the world without a wait Leica will release the M10. HA!
larryk34 Posted June 5, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 5, 2010 Leica just opened a new store in Hong Kong. A Leica Store? Just for Leica? In Hong Kong. Hmmm. Why Hong Kong and not NYC? Do you suppose any M9s were shipped to Hong Kong. (That's a rhetorical question.) Wonder what the prices would be there in US dollars. And so forth. Some market that one. If you're traveling in the area, you may want to stopover in Hong Kong to go shopping. It's a great place to buy anything. My wife once bought an Olympus Pen camera there, many years ago. digitalfx Posted June 5, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 5, 2010 Jaap, the USA got NO cameras from late March until late May. This is absolutely false. I know of a dozen US dealers that received M9's in March, April and May. Mine arrived in March and I turned down a dozen bodies since then. If you want an M9 and are willing to make phone calls, you can get one. Avoid the larger dealers, their backorder list is too deep...use the Leica USA website and start calling dealers, small dealers. You will have an M9 before you know it. Hell B&H shipped a large qty of M9's in April, and Adorama was taking orders again just a few weeks ago.

zeitz Posted June 5, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 5, 2010 And Adorama starting to take orders again A FEW WEEKS AGO suggests they were not receiving cameras for a while either.
digitalfx Posted June 5, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 5, 2010 Please name the dealers. I named my sources of information. With all due respect, I have better things to do than to make this up...why dont you look around just a bit. Try starting here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/100872-m9-delivery-register-60.html you'll find numerous people who received cameras in March and April. Mine came from Mike Crivello Camera on April 1st. Other dealers that called me with stock after mine arrived included: Forever35 in Miami, FL B&H photo (twice) Houston Camera Exchange ProShop For Photographers Precision Camera (Austin, TX) Kenmore Camera An email from Alex at PopFlash on April 1st: "Yes, we received 6 cameras Saturday and will adjust the list accordingly." And based on the thread I posted above it looks like your source Dale Photo delivered multiple M9's in March/April

Dan States Posted June 5, 2010 Share #18 Posted June 5, 2010 Don't forget that with the Euro tumbling the delays and slow production have built a lot of extra profit into export cameras for Leica. They are smart not to blow out demand too soon.
zeitz Posted June 5, 2010 Share #19 Posted June 5, 2010 Digital FX, thanks for the info. I'm not implying you made anything up. I'm curious about shipments to the US, not sales per say. Sales in April could be of cameras shipped earlier, particularly if the cameras were already in stock. The Popflash report of 6 cameras on 1 April is very interesting. I will call around Popflash week.
