Viv Posted June 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Got my steel gray M9 yesterday. Have taken some shots, which look very good on the camera monitor.` However, I discovered that the camera will not interact with OS X 10.4 and that my card reader will not read SDHC cards! So, pending the purchase of a new card reader, I will have to wait to see the images properly and to print them ... I find the ergonomics of the camera to be excellent. My other cameras are a Zeiss Ikon and a Nikon D700.

Jeff S Posted June 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2010 You can get non SDHC cards for cheap these days and it should work fine OP should read download from Leica regarding firmware update 1.116, section on card compatibility...Leica Camera AG - Downloads And, at least be aware of (but not scared by) issues reported...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/127700-faulty-m9-returned-my-letter-leica.html Jeff

adan Posted June 3, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2010 Regarding pre-SDHC card readers and SDHC cards - yep, they won't work. I ran into that back in my M8 days. Something was changed in the protocols that the older readers don't recognize. Regarding connecting the M9 to the computer via USB - make sure you have changed the "USB Connection" menu item to "Mass Storage" from "PTP" (the factory default setting). jaapv Posted June 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2010 A good interim solution. But do get a new card reader that takes SDHC. It is the better way to read out your images.

Guest imported_torben Posted June 4, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 4, 2010 Better yet, buy both a new reader AND an ipad Hoe do you get your pix into the ipad?
diogenis Posted June 7, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 7, 2010 Guys, I don't have an ipad yet. I am waiting to get one. As far as I know, you can use a photo camera accessory to import pictures on it using either directly usb cable and camera, or taking the sim out and reading it with another accessory that is also included. And yea its iphoto, until someone else or Apple introduces photo programs either for archiving or processing and developing. Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit - Apple Store (U.S.) Obviously, like an M9 all these are still backordered... My hopes are that we can wait -I can- until end of this year's summer until things settle worldwide
jaapv Posted June 7, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 7, 2010 I suppose that is only if you shoot JPG, I doubt that Leica DNG is supported.
diogenis Posted June 7, 2010 Share #16 Posted June 7, 2010 Jaap, they support DNG pretty well on their OS, there is no point to ban it from the ipad as well. Particularly now that there is a tendency towards open systems (The Apple & Adobe wars for flash vs HTML5) And since I mentioned HTML5, check where we are Apple - HTML5 Not to mention about the supposed upcoming news of today's WWDC at moscone... Guest WPalank Posted June 7, 2010 Share #19 Posted June 7, 2010 RE: M9 and the iPad. Long discussion here (start with last page and work backward). http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/120482-ipad-supports-raw-files-merged-9.html The iPad seems to show the embedded Jpeg within the DNG file (which is really crappy) if shooting DNG only. If you shoot DNG + Jpeg, then you get a much better image. We have deduced that the Ipad Photo program defaults to the higher resolution Jpeg of the two. My guess is that the gentleman from Leica Rumor in the youtube video above was shooting DNG + Jpeg and fails to state it. The DNG only looks like a highly pixellated uprezzed file. Nothing like on the video above. PS I've owned the iPad and Camera Connection kit for well over a month now.
diogenis Posted June 9, 2010 Share #20 Posted June 9, 2010 William, why don't you try the "discussions" forum within Apple to solve this problem? Here's the link, you might have to register first: Apple - Support - Discussions - iPad Edit: Also I don't know how relevant is all this, but it seems that Apple is wanting open standards now more than ever with "Facetime" standard for global video communications. They just added it to html5
