What's the difference between these two 35mm Summicron-M??

I've been thinking about buying a more contemporary film M for a while now and finally settled on an MP (toyed with the idea of a M7, but the concept of using AE kind of defeated my purpose of wanting to shoot film in the first place so MP it is).

 

The two leading candidate combinations I am considering are as followed:

 

1. Leica MP LHSA Hammertone + 35mm Summicron-M ASPH + Leicavit Package or

 

2. Leica MP Black Paint + 35mm Summicron-M ASPH (latest edition)

 

The deciding factor would really be the quality of the 35mm Summicrons.

 

 

From what I can see the two lenses seem to different in cosmetic design, but I was wondering if someone could tell me whether or not the optical designs of these two lenses are any different, and if so, what are the differences?

There will be no difference between those two lenses. There were two different optical designs, the 35 aspherical and the 35 ASPH. Although they differ optically the images produced are much the same. In your case both lenses are ASPH, so they should be identical optically.

You owe me a beer . Yes, from the photographic point of view there is no difference. But from a Leicanut point of view I think the LHSA combo is the most desirable with the best resale value in the long run.

Hey, Jaap... what does this mean ? Afaik the "aspherical" was the "limited production" Summilux only ... the 'Cron I think was always ASPH... am I wrong ?

LOL. The hammertone look is an acquired taste I think, I don't like it but lots of people love it. Is it durable, or does it sort of flake off?

Yup! Yup! That's the kit Luigi, I've VERY excited about it. I was a little put off, because I had thought that the 35mm 'Cron was an earlier copy and did not share the optical excellence of the lastest version, but now that that is no longer an issue. I AM EXCITED!

 

Peter, according to a fellow forum member they Hammertone is more durable than the regular chrome. The hammertone patterns seems to disguise the minor scratches and dents. But we'll have to wait for me to get mine to give you a full write up about that.

Eheheh... I read you are still a student ezc203...(young, I think)... I am a little over 50... but also at this age one can be EXCITED when waiting for something he REALLY likes... is one of the pleasures of Leica "magic"; I'm waiting for a strange item bought at an auction 2 days ago... SUPER EXCITED !!!
