SiOnara Posted May 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Just wondered if anyone had any problems with the Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 PII lens. I purchased it second hand from Classic Cameras London about 2 months ago and over the past week I have noticed the barrel is loose. The front end of the lens (aperture ring and filter thread) rotates slightly and it seems to be getting worse. I have a feeling and second hand goods at Classic Camera will be under a 6 month warranty so I don't really want to attempt to fix it myself but I was curious if anyone else had come across this problem? Thanks, Jei

Xmas Posted May 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2010 Hi Many of the CV lenses 'self dismantle', Cosina don't seem to issue nail varnish to their assembly ladies. Some Leica lenses ditto. Noel
LotharZhou Posted May 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2010 I bought the same lens from the same shop 17 months ago, the first one is very soft and blur on the right edge, unacceptable, the shop swapped another one for me, works great, only left top corner is slightly soft depending on incoming light directions. The quality control at cosina is a major issue.
SiOnara Posted May 26, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted May 26, 2010 I have been very happy with the lens over all. Hope they will fix it.
Carl E Posted May 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2010 I had the same problem with my 35 PII-M, but it was easily fixed by a local service guy with experience from classic lens designs. I believe he just loosened the barrel bushing (or whatever the term is) and tightened whatever needed to be tightened inside. It worked fine afterwards. mike_j Posted May 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Zeiss 28mm (another cosina lens) loosens up regularly. I just have to retighten the retaining ring. I'm tempted to put a drop of loktite on it but I can't actually see the threaded section and I'm wary of getting the loktite where it shouldn't go. Xmas Posted May 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 30, 2010 Locktight on a lens retaining ring is undesirable, it can and does leave small pieces behind, which can make subsequent repair difficult. If you must and it is not recommended, a dab of garish nail varnish at edge of ring will freeze it without penetrating and can be detected and removed with nail varnish remover. It is cruel to use transparent varnish. It is however best to get a ring spanner, or make up a similar special tool and torque it a little more, incrementally until it does not undo in service. e.g. file a small pair of needle nosed pliers, until they just bottom in the ring drivers. You do need to avoid slips... Noel
earleygallery Posted June 3, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2010 I've got a few CV lenses and they're all fine. I've read about plenty of Leica lenses lossening up too. Good luck with having to go back to classic camera!
tobey bilek Posted June 4, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 4, 2010 The ones i bought 10 years ago, I fixed myself. They were 12/15/25 Have not bought any since. They are not a top tier supplier so you get what you pay for.
