Leitz Elmar 4/135 lens head: how to fit it to M-body?

Hi.

I recently bought an Elmar 4/135 lens head, mounted on a 16472 tube and a 16464K adapter, apparently fitted to be used on a Visoflex. Does anyone know if there is a way to use the Elmar without Visoflex on my M camera?

Thanks and best regards

Johan

Hi

In the long distance past you send the lens back to Leitz and they matched it to a 'bespoke' helicoid. The lens and helicoid are coded with 'exact' focal length.

I'd be very surprised if the spare parts were available/economical as new spare parts. Sometimes focus barrels for the viso type lenses turn up on eBay cheaply or even a complete lens with damaged glass maybe. Some of these are serial numbered and mated to particular front groups I think, but it may not be a problem. Worth keeping an eye out anyway.

you can pick up a Visoflex fairly cheaply of course, if that is of interest. They are fun to experiment with and it's quite addictive to acquire the various attachments and adpters that you may need. eBay is your friend for this stuff.

Imo it is not worth it to go to all that trouble. It is proboably less expensive to buy another complete lens than to have the mount adjusted. These lenses are plentiful.

I agree and have that lens too. I got it as an inexpensive buy to have fun with the Visoflex. Always good to answer what has been asked though rather than what works for us individualy. I'm sure that Johan will decide what makes sense for him once he looks at the options.

Anyway, here are the two options: OTZFO universal focussing mount, Cameraquest Viso-M adapter and Leicina R-M adapter 22226 and, to the right, the standard focussing mount. For the adapter stack one would have to make a hand-made focussing scale.
