semrich Posted May 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had three instances of files not opening in Bridge giving the following error message: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type file." Bridge just shows a blue flower icon for the image. I took some shots in the morning, turned the camera off and about 2 1/2 hours later took a few more shots. all shots show up on the camera monitor but will not open. I had the same condition on a different SD card that had been reformmated. Both cards are SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB. So it appears the camera is loosing data recording to the card. I'm only using the M8 again because I have an 7 day workshop coming up the requires digital images and now I'm uncertain of my ability to use the camera. I could be blissfully going along all day checking the monitor thinking I've got good shots and when I go to upload them later find out I've got nothing that will open in Bridge. Any help would be appreciated.
Advertisement Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Hi semrich, Take a look here Corrupt files on SD card. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2010 Sometimes such files will open in another program ( like C1) and then you can save them as TIFFs to work in PS. It has happened to me once or twice. I think the problem is in Bridge, not the files.
richam Posted May 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 21, 2010 Richard, I had some problems with my M8 that were similar, but got solved when I updated the M8 firmware. Since then, I always put the SD card in a reader and transfer (copy) the image files to a folder on the computer. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck. semrich Posted May 21, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted May 21, 2010 jaapv, sorry I didn't mention that I ran PHOTORECOVERY Pro.app against the card, it did nothing so I contacted the software vendor and sent the file to them and their reply was: "The 689 file is completely garbled in the hex data listing. There is not even a marker for the beginning of the file. The 670 file starts with 4949 (hex) followed by the exif header. There is no such data in the 689 file. What happened with these files?" So it would seem that Bridge is not at fault.
roguewave Posted May 21, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2010 Richard sorry to hear about this. Stay in the Bliss, regardless. I'd buy/try a new card & isolate the issue. Also, is the battery at full charge? Did you upgrade to the new firmware? Those may be the issues, as mentioned above. I would assume that if you can see the images, they are in the buffered memory only & haven't been written to the card. I'd get this sorted out quickly. Peter is gonna work your butt off. I'd also get another battery if you only have one. I have been using the new Transcend SDHC 8 GB cards with my M8 & they are bulletproof. Wish I could use them with my DMR. jaapv Posted May 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2010 In that case it is a toss-up between the the camera writing the file, the card recording the file and the computer transferring the file where the fault lies. That something went wrong is clear. The camera probably shows the embedded JPG, I think.
wilfredo Posted May 27, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Richard, Let us know how it goes when you try a new SD card? I recommend the SanDisk Extreme III. Good luck.
wilfredo Posted May 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 28, 2010 Richard, I use PSCS4 and the last three versions of PS I've used never had an issue opening RAW files shot with the M8. However, I had to download plug-ins from Adobe in order to open RAW files shot with my Canon DSLR's, otherwise I could only open Canon JPEG'S. I suspect the issue is not with the camera, something seems to be off with the software. If you know of someone who has PSCS4 or even PSCS3 or 5 you might try opening your DNG files with theirs and see if it works? I believe PSCS will also work.
