Do you seriously think I was unaware of this...?

I can tell you are being earnest, so I shall be serious in return. If you think that Leica misled you, then sue them. Even better, join that class action that has been running all this time.

Oh, wait...

There is no class action.

There is no case.

Google "invitation to treat" and read what you find. Even better, Google Carlill vs The Carbolic Smokeball Company. Read and understand. Leica has no case to answer because what it said was "mere puff". No contract was formed with you, or anyone else.

We have been here many times before.

You chose to buy an M8.

You exercised your own free will.

You chose to believe mere puff.

Learn the lesson. Move on.

Regards,

Bill

To sue a company for $5000? No, it is not worth time/effort.

I prefer making money selling lenses that I might not use. The body is irrelevant.

Moreover, for me M8 is just a "toy". Once in a while I buy toys for my son, not because he wants to play with them , but because I want him to disassemble/ to break them, so he can leant how things work. M8 is like one those toys for me.

I still use MP/M7. I love Olympus E-3 for the image quality and for trouble free operation under ANY conditions. So, I have moved on.. What about you? Why are you keep posting in this thread if you feel that Leica has no problems?

My position if very clear - promises MUST be kept.

To <snip> for me M8 is just a "toy". <snip>
definition of "toy":

3. An amusement; a pastime

this sounds OK to me, nothing to get worked up about but nevertheless a pleasant experience.

sb, I hadn't seen what you posted at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/126378-m8-firmware-2.html#post1337752, so I'm curious--was this an email to you? I'm a registered M8 owner, but I never saw it. :(

It's marvelous that Mr Lee made this grandiose prognostication when the M8.2 was already in the works, despite the fact that not even all the features of the M8.2 would be post-installable on the M8. :p

And I'm sure we all remember how quickly the marketing hype was forgotten as the forum started parsing every printed utterance of Dr Kaufmann to figure out what exactly the M8 Upgrade Program really meant. ;)

Off Topic, but Bob Marley wrote these lyrics, not Aswad (Cover)....

But Abraham Lincoln said something similar which might be the "root" to this quote...

It would have been very interesting to hear what the engineers at Leica though about his idea. I expect it would have been a good time for a foreigner to learn some new German words.

what did we learn so far

1/bob marley wrote the lyrics that i heard first time from aswad

2/there are at least five vocal members in the forum that they dont care about M8 future

evolution

3/there at least four that dont accept any claim based on Mr Lee ex Leica CEO and dont like to hear about it

but there are still few thousands M8 users that they would really like the evolution of M8 to continue paid or unpaid for some serious photographic reasons, lets respect them.

Angelos, you are wrong on all counts. I thought I was clear before. There is no problem with debating or wanting M8 upgrades - good luck to you. The issue is with those who refuse to accept truth, reality and fact.

Bill

I have absolutely nothing against M8, other than it produces horrible/unusable JPEGs and has weird reds, which are hard to correct during post-processing. These "inborn" problems should have been corrected in prior firmware upgrades. Leica has chosen to ignore them.

Leica, as a company catering high-end market, must keep its promises.

Do shoot DNG, that is what the M8 is make for.

Well, I don't know about a frmware update, but I personally could do with a firmware update to ensure that I see and take better photographs. The camera and its firmware are pretty far down the list compared to my own photographic visualisation problems:D.

I find the idea that a company should blindly provide free or utterly uneconomic services in order to satisfy a smallish number of customers who obviously do not consider that the company has to produce stuff to make a profit so that that it actually remains in business, to be somewhat bemusing. There is a distinct lack of realism about such an attitude. If we all actually believed marketing hype (EVEN when it reflects the aspirations of company and management at the time it was used) then the world would be a very different place. The M8 as it exists now is an extremely capable tool - period.

thank you all for your contribution. As i mention earlier every time the topic comes up a small number of friends are trying vigorously to steer the boat out of course.Im very confident of the people in Leica Solms that passionately work for the progress of the company and have very different approach on the subject-the discussion is not related to the merits of M8 which are a lot-but about the evolution of the M system and a policy that works in that direction and believe me my friends Leica knows better.

I dont like to judge but any evolution of M8 is severely profitable in long and in short term , i will not comment the financial knowledge of other fellow members as this is not a financial but a photographic forum.

Think harder.Profit is a result of non stop imagination & evolution.M is a system is not a consumer supermaket product.

...not according to the OP, who merely stirred an old pot with regard to the M8. We certainly agree that "Leica knows better"...

Quite.

Which is why we now have the M9, and will in time have the M10 and beyond. That is evolution.

I keep thinking whether they are volunteers or they are paid by someone to suppress/ridicule particular threads in this forum....

As far as I concern, once consumer's trust is lost, it is lost forever.

dearest Bill of course your opinion is valid and heard with great respect but as we all understand is one opinion- yours- and your private approach but we have to agree that yours is not more valid than other very different opinions and they are a lot,M9 is not M8 and for some users is a choice but for many many many others is not for very serious photographic reasons discussed & explained in other threads- M9 will stay on its route and M8 will stay in its own route.

I can bring recent quotes for the M8 evolution but i dont believe that quoting is a very creative way of communication, people have their private needs and thoughts.

Unless we are quoting poets or philosophers.
