rondeb Posted May 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone else thinking of this? I've got a 1.0 nocti already, but I can't afford the new 'lux without selling. Decision time...
Advertisement Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Hi rondeb, Take a look here Noctilux or new 35 'lux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
batmobile Posted May 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2010 only you can say! Personally I would have the 35 lux as 35 is my fave FL by a mile.
cheewai_m6 Posted May 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 20, 2010 only you can say! Personally I would have the 35 lux as 35 is my fave FL by a mile. i agree. i'm personally not fond of the size of the nocti. weird thing is, anything on a slr is that size, but as soon as we're talking m bodies, it's too big. anyway, i'd 35mm lux. hard to imagine it being that much better than the asph version 1. Son of Helm Posted May 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2010 New Summilux somewhat better in the near focus range, otherwise virtually the same, see Erwin Puts' evaluation: SX35FLE, part1
peter_n Posted May 20, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2010 If you love the Noctilux don't sell it. A unique lens. It's too early to buy the new Summilux anyway (I've learned not to be an early adopter). More time to save...
Overgaard Posted May 20, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 20, 2010 Maybe consider getting one of the "old" 35 lux lenses being sold now in favor of the new..?
adli Posted May 20, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would go for the 35 'lux because a 35 fits my shooting style better than a 50. Would love a 35 Noct, but I don't thing that's going to happend.
Ecar Posted May 20, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 20, 2010 Still some time to save for the 35 Lux. Sooner or later, you'll regret having sold your Nocti...
rennsport Posted May 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 20, 2010 Keep the Noct f1, and when possible, buy one of the older 35 Luxes.
rondeb Posted May 20, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted May 20, 2010 All good points. Just so tempted by this new 'lux since much of my work is close up. Any "old" lux that doesn't focus shift? The Noctilux if, for sure, special wide open. Nothing like it. I do have several 50's however. Including a Sonnar C optimized for 1.5. Hmmmmm
Fotomiguel Posted May 20, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 20, 2010 New Summilux somewhat better in the near focusrange, otherwise virtually the same, see Erwin Puts' evaluation: SX35FLE, part1 How nice! Near focus. Of course very important. I don't know when but this is going to be my next lens.
rondeb Posted May 20, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted May 20, 2010 I should mention that i do have the voigtlander 35 1.4 and think it's pretty good. But then I do currently have a few 50's. Planar, Sonnar, 1.5 Summarit, hexanon 2.0. Voigtlander , Noctilux I may have a problem.
gwelland Posted May 20, 2010 Share #13 Posted May 20, 2010 I may have a problem. Don't worry ... You're here amongst fellow patients
geesbert Posted May 20, 2010 Share #14 Posted May 20, 2010 Is it really true that the ne 35 lux doesn't have a focus lever? puts speaks of the omission of the 'focus level'. It would be a deal breaker for me.
geesbert Posted May 20, 2010 Share #15 Posted May 20, 2010 to answer my own question, here: Pre-Order the new Leica 35 Summilux at Amazon | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS it seems to have one, would have bee too weird anyway...

With so many to choose from, what is the decision process for choosing which particular lens to use for a given situation? Do the all draw that differently, and what are the characteristics which suit specific purposes?
rondeb Posted May 20, 2010 Author Share #17 Posted May 20, 2010 With so many to choose from, what is the decision process for choosing which particular lens to use for a given situation? Do the all draw that differently, and what are the characteristics which suit specific purposes? Good question - I ask myself every day. Actually the 2 "special" 50's are the Sonnar - C and the Noctilux. The Planar I picked up as my "standard" 50 and then saw a great deal on the Hexanon. The Summarit was a gift. The Nokton is badly damaged but still works and sharp. Ok. Did I justify all these? No, of course not. I'm pairing down my 50's starting now. I'm waiting to get the Hexanon back from calibration and I'll probably keep that as my walkaround.(It's built easily as good as the Summicron). I'll sell/trade the rest except for the Sonnar-C and, depending on what my decision is, the Noctilux. Please keep the comments coming...
earleygallery Posted May 20, 2010 Share #18 Posted May 20, 2010 I've got a few 50's myself but they're pretty standard. I think too many choices just gets in the way of the photography, too much time deciding what to use! The Summar has a special look so I do choose that for specific shots, as I imagine you would the Noctilux.
Shade Posted May 21, 2010 Share #19 Posted May 21, 2010 I prefer the 50mm focal length. I have tried a few 35mm, they are great lenses but they just dont fit my shooting style..
rondeb Posted May 21, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted May 21, 2010 Well, I've made my decision. Newer is always better, so I'm selling the notch and getting the new 'lux. Kidding! I'm keeping the noctilux. Shot a few frames with it today to remind myself of the magic its still there Now if I can just sell enough stuff... Thanks!
