I just purchased a very clean, used M8 today. I had a chance to play with it a bit and am very impressed. The only issue so far was that I could not get it to format the latest Sandisk SD cards. The firmware is not the most current and I am going to update the firmware and then try again.

Best regards,

Bob

Use an old non-SDHC card for the update.

Thank you all for your comments. I am enjoying the camera very much...I wish I was able to do this sooner.

In terms of lenses I am using all Leica glass:

28mm Elmarit

35mm Summicron

50mm Elmar

90mm Elmarit

I have some CV and Konica lenses I want to try as well. I also have a Zeiss 25mm Biogon that I expect to try this weekend.

Best regards,

Bob

Congrats on your new baby! :)

I'm interested to hear your views once you've tried your Konica lenses on the M8, I've been thinking of getting the 28mm myself as I've just spotted one but don't know much about it's performance/focusing on the M8.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello everyone,

I have also made the leap into the digital Leica world with the M8. Back in my youth, 1980, I aquired an M3 and 3 lenses (Summarit 1.5/50mm, Summaron 3.5/35mm and Hektor 4.5/135mm) when my uncle died. I didn't really know what I had, however knew that I loved the feel of the camera and quality of the results. I used that system until 2005 when I switched to a Canon 20D. Then last October my wife and I were traveling through Japan, and I saw a guy with an M6 and an M8 so I struck up a conversation. I had no idea that Leica had made a digital M. I couldn't get it out of my mind, and now have taken the plunge.

So far I love this camera, I can't believe how much it is like my M3. I was getting a sore shoulder lugging around my Canon system. In case anyone is interested, I bought 2 M8's, the first one came to me and the first thing I did was check the shutter count. I have seen post questioning the durability of the shutter. That first M8 had a unique ID number of 31c2b or 203819. Wow!!, I returned the camera. It still worked, however I didn't want to take the chance.

Anyway, sorry about the long post, I'm just very excited!

I'll add myself to this list. I just got mine last week. Very impressive images come out of this camera. I've got a Zeiss 25 and 50/2 as well as an Ultron 35/1.7 and Nokton 50/1.5. The two Zeiss lenses are very impressive as is the Ultron. The Nokton not so much so. I've got a V1 Lux 50 on the way and I'm really looking forward to seeing what it can do.
