rpsawin Posted May 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased a very clean, used M8 today. I had a chance to play with it a bit and am very impressed. The only issue so far was that I could not get it to format the latest Sandisk SD cards. The firmware is not the most current and I am going to update the firmware and then try again. Best regards, Bob

LeicaTobin Posted May 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 20, 2010 You will love it. I just got mine a little while ago and it really makes photography fun.
wilfredo Posted May 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2010 Are you using Sandisk Extreme III? Those should work fine. There is a list of M8 friendly SD cards. Do a search on this forum and you will probably find it. Cheap SD cards are not recommended, and some won't work on the M8.
PasMichiel Posted May 20, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2010 Congrats.. Witch lenses do you have/use with it?
kanzlr Posted May 20, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 20, 2010 you need at least firmware 2.0 for SDHC cards to work correctly.
jaapv Posted May 20, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Use an old non-SDHC card for the update.
rpsawin Posted May 22, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted May 22, 2010 Use an old non-SDHC card for the update. Thank you all for your comments. I am enjoying the camera very much...I wish I was able to do this sooner. In terms of lenses I am using all Leica glass: 28mm Elmarit 35mm Summicron 50mm Elmar 90mm Elmarit I have some CV and Konica lenses I want to try as well. I also have a Zeiss 25mm Biogon that I expect to try this weekend. Best regards, Bob

cidereye Posted May 27, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 27, 2010 Congrats on your new baby! I'm interested to hear your views once you've tried your Konica lenses on the M8, I've been thinking of getting the 28mm myself as I've just spotted one but don't know much about it's performance/focusing on the M8. india42 Posted June 12, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 12, 2010 Hello everyone, I have also made the leap into the digital Leica world with the M8. Back in my youth, 1980, I aquired an M3 and 3 lenses (Summarit 1.5/50mm, Summaron 3.5/35mm and Hektor 4.5/135mm) when my uncle died. I didn't really know what I had, however knew that I loved the feel of the camera and quality of the results. I used that system until 2005 when I switched to a Canon 20D. Then last October my wife and I were traveling through Japan, and I saw a guy with an M6 and an M8 so I struck up a conversation. I had no idea that Leica had made a digital M. I couldn't get it out of my mind, and now have taken the plunge. So far I love this camera, I can't believe how much it is like my M3. I was getting a sore shoulder lugging around my Canon system. In case anyone is interested, I bought 2 M8's, the first one came to me and the first thing I did was check the shutter count. I have seen post questioning the durability of the shutter. That first M8 had a unique ID number of 31c2b or 203819. Wow!!, I returned the camera. It still worked, however I didn't want to take the chance. Anyway, sorry about the long post, I'm just very excited! Paul K

wda Posted June 12, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 12, 2010 Welcome all three of you to the Leica M8 fraternity. The SD card question has been answered; I hope that solves the problem.
zombii Posted June 17, 2010 Share #18 Posted June 17, 2010 I'll add myself to this list. I just got mine last week. Very impressive images come out of this camera. I've got a Zeiss 25 and 50/2 as well as an Ultron 35/1.7 and Nokton 50/1.5. The two Zeiss lenses are very impressive as is the Ultron. The Nokton not so much so. I've got a V1 Lux 50 on the way and I'm really looking forward to seeing what it can do. Rod
