LOT 115

M2 black paint

camera from original black paint batch in mint condition, completely restored, cap

Condition: A-

Year: 1965

Serial no. 1130115

EUR 2000-2400 (Estimate)

I'm thinking about bidding, just would like to know if you guys think the estimated price range is reasonable. I believe is a bit on the high side, but I'm not too much into old Leicas.

thanks!

Unfortunately it has been restored, which makes the price a bit of a lottery. For a good, unrestored example I would expect the end price to exceed the estimate.

Agreed, many were hard used and have non original bits speed dials and levers, they will be

1500-1700 GBP

'Repaints' even with correct serial number

1000 GBP or less

collectors wont touch.

If you want a BP M2 to use send a beaten up chrome one to CRR Luton, it comes back ilke new but black, still less then 1000 GBP.

If you bought this example and scuffed it a collector would probably still detect it was a repaint, it is real difficult to match the patina of the Leitz paint, e.g. bubbles, flakes & wear...

The value of restored/repainted etc. is very low.

A collector is not interested in such these items.

Noone knows who/when/why/where the camera was redone-

If you think to use it,it's for sure a good buy .

"Restored" is seldom a nice word for collectors, unless there is a documentation about the work made... Lot 114 is better in this sense; and, for M2 lovers, Lot 112 is also an interesting combo (expecially for its Summaron "the real M2 version" ;))

P.S. : I'll make a bid, but for all another item... (not the M3 prototype...)

If I could I'd go for the 110, but I'm not looking for a collector's item anyway, and I'm planning to use the camera, so 115 looks really nice...

It is, by sure, and M2 is really a pleasant camera to use (and was my first BM Leica, so I have a special feeling for... ;)... Maybe for I'm getting old...:(... but I start to think with nostalgy to the times of me, my old BMW twin bike , on the roads with M2 and the 35+90 "light set"...)

If you are going to use it get something really cheap, it only needs to work.

THIS (same auction) is an item I do not remember to have ever seen for sale :

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

Puts says they built 1000 of them (and this one should be the first of the single batch made)... has anyone ever tried it ? Was it in the regular pricelist at the times ? At 1/5 the prospected price I could be interested into... ;) Curios it was declared as dedicated to the TE 90.... I suspect its price was not so lower than a TE135...

Jaap,

Just a quicky. I've no wish to start a new thread about this.

I can't remember where I saw a (very off-topic) remark from you about the R3 batteries. They are very ordinary readily-available SR 44 or ..76.. 1.5 volt types. Not the old mercury batteries.

John.

Hi

I was only aware they planned on building them not that they had made a batch, might never have been marketed, I suspect it is going to be >>> dosh.

MIght have been poor optically, especially on TE, and stopped part way through. Nice box though.

Indeed... Put's list details the allocated numbers for a planned batch, this doesn't mean that all were built : I think if they were REALLY 1000 they would appear often on the market ! Tele Elmarit 180 2,8 for Viso was made in about 350 items or so and is regularly offered, more than once a year, I've noticed.

Given that the item for sale is the first s/n of the "theorical" batch... maybe they built indeed VERY few of them. Extenders for Leicas have never been good... I had one years ago (Kenko optic, assembled by an Italian lab) and was less than discrete... contrast was "eaten away"... at the moment Newoldcamera of Italy has a Komura 2x for sale... the kit is very nice, with a original, dedicated case, and a "2x" finder (dual scale), but the performances probably bad: price is rather good, btw...

Hi

Yes the circa 1800 off BP M2 turn up real regular, seen two last year, both for sale, at quite reasonable prices.

But the extender might have been 'an internal staff sale'. I used to work in a white goods company and they did large preproduction runs and sold off any excess internally cheap, When you needed a spare part years later they would post you one for free.

Probably real expensive extender, nice box.

Crazy set, that Komura..:)

If you like, I can easily go there : 1,5 hour from home, and I am often next to for my work (like today, indeed...), and test it with my M8/TE135: if satisfactory, let's toss a coin to decide who takes it... :) (I had already the idea to do this... but today forgot to take with me the M8)
