Advertisement Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Hi Michael Geschlecht, Take a look here I love my M3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
finarphin Posted August 18, 2015 Share #382 Posted August 18, 2015 1955 Leica M3. So here it is. I figured that no matter how much I paid, I'd have to do work on it, so I might as well go for one that obviously needed work -- that way I'd have less competition, and I'd have to pay less to begin with. I guess the strategy worked, since I won. This is a project, and this is the initial state. One step at a time. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Her Berger Posted August 18, 2015 Share #383 Posted August 18, 2015 I understand that all the known Stradivarius violins have names -- individual names, like people. The same rationale might be applicable to Leica M3s. When I get one I might give it a name. Anyway, I have a name for this one: Carmen Miranda. True? i don't have a Stradivaris but quite expensive Instruments, but no namens for them
finarphin Posted August 19, 2015 Share #384 Posted August 19, 2015 True? i don't have a Stradivaris but quite expensive Instruments, but no namens for them Well, I don't know if all of them have names, but the one Joshua Bell owns is called the "Gibson" Stradivarius. Many others have names as well.
pixie Posted August 20, 2015 Share #385 Posted August 20, 2015 My Leica M3 has been mine since new, way back in 1967. Thru births, marriage and divorce, relationships.. Amateur to Professional. Back to Amateur on retirement.. sure the M3 has a name "ziggy". The M6 named by daughter, "pixie".
Brenton C Posted August 26, 2015 Share #386 Posted August 26, 2015 Maybe I should name my M3 "sharpy". I thought I was struggling with focussing. Certainly the R4 was easier to focus, but after my first few rolls from each, it's the M3 that's almost always dead on. The R4 has given me a good few misses that really surprised me. finarphin Posted October 11, 2015 Share #387 Posted October 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not much progress on the restoration, but it does have a lens. I don't love it yet; I may, given time. Welcome, dear visitor! pixie Posted October 14, 2015 Share #388 Posted October 14, 2015 Not much progress on the restoration, but it does have a lens. I don't love it yet; I may, given time. My M3 has vulcanite missing on other side. I suggest a filter on your lens and a lens hood. The latter helps with flare, the filter protects the lens from cleaning marks, esp. if it is a Collapsible Summicron, like mine. My M3 still my favorite M, but again I love the 50mm lens. Enjoy yours.

finarphin Posted November 14, 2015 Share #392 Posted November 14, 2015 Restoration progress: vulcanite removed. Next step is having the viewfinder prisms serviced, as the viewfinder image is so dim it's almost impossible to focus. Welcome, dear visitor! Menju Posted February 23, 2016 Share #400 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Here is my 1954 M3 DS with some equipment. I saved it from a flea market in Istanbul. I really like this camera (although I am more into LTM Leicas), hopefully it will last a lot longer than I will. It's great I can also use all my LTM lenses (Leitz, or Russian), like this F/1,5, 50mm Xenon for instance.
