svllee Posted May 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just noticed my M8 developed this problem a couple of days ago, whilst reviewing images on the screen. More obvious on bright scenes. The camera's been used sparingly over the last 2 months or so and have been in a camera bag most of the time, in cool conditions. Yesterday, I sent it back to my Leica dealer and the immediately took it in to be sent back to Leica UK. I guess this is due to poor supplier of the glass or installation and is a known fault? Have never come across this problem having owned so many digital cameras over the years.
Advertisement Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Hi svllee, Take a look here Any conclusive analysis about the coffee-ring problem?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pharyngula Posted May 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 6, 2010 I don't see an image of the problem posted?? But why don't I make a wild guess anyway - could it possibly be Newton's rings? What lens, filter and lighting conditions are involved? If that is what they are, there may be an alignment problem with a lens element(s).
sfokevin Posted May 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 6, 2010 The OP is referring to a failure of the LCD cover whereby the seal is broken and humidity and particles dust enter between the cover and LCD and accumulates in a ring formation... Curious has anyone experienced this with the Sapphire cover?... I had karmatic lucky that when I did the shutter/frameline upgrade they also upgraded my cover to Sapphire for free!!!... I assumed that was because they checked and noticed that there was an issue with the plastic cover in place?...

svllee Posted May 6, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted May 6, 2010 Hi, yes, I should have posted a picture of it, but I had to rush it to the dealer as I am traveling now. It looks exactly like sfokevin's image.
pharyngula Posted May 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 6, 2010 Sorry - I just assumed you meant reviewing images on your computer "screen". My bad.
vanhulsenbeek Posted May 6, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8.2 has the affliction. I haven't decided when to send it in. My warranty is expiring in January... I think you should, if you can miss it for a while. Try to get a fast turn-around. My 75 Summi backfocusses, on the M9. It did not on the M8. I plan to wring two weeks out of them (in Solms) :-)
brill64 Posted May 9, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 9, 2010 the coffee ring stain is a known issue by leica and if your camera is under warranty they would replace the monitor. mine was and they did a very good job without any fuss.
carlantapp Posted May 9, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 9, 2010 Coffee ring problem showed up on my M8.2. Immediately started to get quite a bit of dust under one corner of the glass. Called NJ and they said it needed to come in. No big surprise it was happening. Awaiting return now.
