THAT'S A GREAT IDEA. I have a Digilux 3 and it never occurred to me. All I need is a 4/3 to micro 4/3 adapter. Which adapter did you buy? THANKS. Dan

Hi Dan, I too have the the D3, (also a D2 and a D1 and DL2)....but do not yet have a GF1 (am waiting to see where Leica goes with the X1 strategy, or if they release a GF product range.)

The above photo of the GF1 with Leica D 14-50mm 2.8-3.5 Vario-Elmarit is not mine. I found the image on DPreview.

I was tempted to buy a GF1 as I really like the GF body size but the GF limitation with this lens is that there is no AF, it has to be manual focus......... major bummer (hence my waiting stalemate).

I wanted to get a M9 and 2-3 lenses, but feel I've lost the patience for swapping lenses and manual focus....been there, done that over the last 30+ years.

The Lumix 4/3 to Micro adapter is the standard Panasonic adapter.

What is a 'Faux-Leica'? Either it has Leica content or it does not. Seems clear to me. That is the only requirement of the Forum rules.

Faux - Leica. a Panasonic in Leica drag. To me Leica content is made by Leica and even putting a red dot on it doesn't change that.

The forum rules are quite clear

if you use a Leica body, you can post any shot you wish here

if you use a Leica lens, you can post any shot you wish here, regardless of the body it is mounted on

if your camera has neither a Leica lens, nor a Leica body, then you cannot post the shot

So, Panasonics, with Leica lenses are fine. Panasonics with Lumix lenses are not. Canon bodies with Leica R glass are fine, Canon bodies with Canon lenses are not. Ditto Nikon or Sony

etc

I really think that Panasonic got more out of the Leica joint venture than did Leica. Before the j.v., I found that Panasonic cameras were so-so also rans. Now, the Panasonic lenses

and camera quality are right up there with the best of the prosumer bunch. I expect that they will eventually come out with a micro 4/3's pro level DSLR that will match the best except for sensor size, but who knows, they may even go for a full frame sensor eventually.

I now have a GF-1 on order to take on vacation, not as a backup, but as a quicker shot small camera to street shoot when I don't want to take the time to focus my M8. I know that I will be told to pre-focus or zone focus, but I have never been as satisfied with the results as when I take my time to focus. The GF-1 is supposed to be as fast to focus as many of the SLR's, and in a small light package.

Note, I will take both since I will not be without my M8. It is just too good to leave home. But comparing shots with M8 and GFi using Leica and CV lenses (see another thread on this forum) there still is nothing to compare with the Leica sensor, but the GF-1 with the 4/3's sensor still does a heck of a job for a small investment; as good as many of the lower priced APS SLR's.

In the eighties there was a Seat with an engine "designed by Porsche". And its engine block had the Porsche name engraved.

This thing didn't feel, sound, handle like a Porsche at all. And the worst, it didn't impress the girls :D

I asked the same question some time ago. As I prefer Lumix GF1 over my Digilux 2 and D-Lux4, haven't posted here any of my photos any more.

GF1 is a good camera I use the 20mm and 45-200mm sold the 14-45 and am still considering the 45mm

I sold the DL2 for the DL3 then sold the DL3 for the DL4 sold that for the GF1 I am holding off buying anything till after Photokina. Really want to see what Leica may come up with.

Try the GF1's multi-point focusing. I find it uncanny at choosing the right focus point. That, plus a 5.6 aperture, and you're ready for just about anything on the street.

Does the Pana Lumix GF1 qualify as a Leica? I realize that Leica may be grinding the Lumix lenses. Does this camera "qualify" to post in the LUF??? Thanks for your answers. I tried the camera out a Samy's Camera , and loved it, especially the 1.7 lens and the optional EVF.

It may not be "Leica" but "The" company and the community needs to take this great little camera seriously. Chris

Most of those systems seem to pick whatever is closest to the photographer. To be honest an out of focus foreground seldom works as well as an oof background as it tends to distract from the main subject.
