wilfredo Posted April 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some of you know that my M8 went back to Leica for a third time after they failed to fix the "SD CARD LOCKED" problem I had with the camera. This message would appear on the LCD and render the camera useless. After I sent the camera back to Leica a third time, they sent me a Loaner, express overnight. Today I received a "new" replacement M8, in mint condition. Everything seems to be working as it should, and it came with a Leica warranty certificate. I can't tell you how relieved I am about this. I've been snapping away at anything and everything. This feels like a happy ending, and I'm going forward with my plans to purchase a new 50mm Summilux ASPH. Cheers! PS Here's a shot from today. wilfredo Posted April 30, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted April 30, 2010 PS I just checked the shutter actuations on the new camera. Only 242, and at least 20 are mine. Leica really came through!

wilfredo Posted May 1, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted May 1, 2010 Thanks. I felt a bit naked without my own M8 so I'm thrilled that it's back.

ottocrat Posted May 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 1, 2010 What a wonderful result, happy for you! I have this problem on one of my SD cards; not on my two others.
Doc Henry Posted May 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 1, 2010 Wilfredo, Now that you have a new M8 we are going to have beautiful pictures on your thread "M8 photography" That said, I think Leica always happens to solve the problems. I have many Leica M and R, and I'm not complaining after sales service (that I did not need) Regards Henry

thompsonkirk Posted May 1, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 1, 2010 That's a nice calligraphy shot, & I'm happy that this was finally resolved. And I understand your not being tempted to trade up. M8 is very satisfying, once the filters & focal lengths have become second nature. Kirk

george + Posted May 2, 2010 Share #14 Posted May 2, 2010 That is the Leica spirit we knew from the old days. And it has been my experience, in the rare cases when needed, too. Three cheers for the good guys!

wilfredo Posted May 3, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted May 3, 2010 Thank you all. Misha, They never communicated what was wrong. I use SanDisk Extreme III SD cards. The same cards worked fine on the Loaner M8, and now work fine on the replacement camera. I visited your web page. Great photography.

elmoslate Posted May 4, 2010 Share #20 Posted May 4, 2010 I haven't had any issue (yet?) with the used 8.2 I recently bought, but reading all the issues with shutters, banding, SD card, battery, etc. that you & other Leica owners have experienced is starting to give me agita. Maybe it's good preparation for the day when I will eventually experience a hiccup with the camera, but I was expecting better quality from a $4000 camera (what I paid for mine). I've never had any issues whatsoever with any of my prior cameras from cheap compacts to DSLRs. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret the purchase because I love the results I'm getting so far, but sure wish quality control in Portugal/Solms was better.
