Advertisement Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Hi likalar, Take a look here Ferrari Grill. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elansprint72 Posted April 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2010 Before anyone says "Pete will know"- he does not! Special body, Modenese, or maybe Swiss? Quite early 50s, or even late 40s?
likalar Posted April 27, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted April 27, 2010 Pete, I wish I knew too. I asked the couple if I could make a photo and ask about the car; They were busy lowering the top, and suggested that "later" would be better. When I returned twice, they weren't around. Here's a couple snapshots that may help identify. Reminds me a bit of Pininfarina's early 1950's Nash-Healy. Larry
iShutterbug Posted April 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2010 Perhaps a 1951-1953 "212 Inter Export" cabriolet with Michelotti-Vignale coachwork?
elansprint72 Posted April 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 27, 2010 Having seen the whole thing I'm none the wiser. The overall shape looks not unlike an Arnolt creation. Were they not styled in Switz? No doubt one of the magazines will supply the answer.
J_Thompson Posted April 27, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2010 ishutterbug nailed it. It's a 1952 Ferrari 212 Europa Vignale cabriolet, one of four cabrios built out of 78 total. I cheated and found the info on the Mille entry list.

stuny Posted April 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2010 I was thinking Barchetta, but only got close. A lovely shot, though I thought the title referred to a sandwich shop.
likalar Posted April 28, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks for the nice comments and sleuthing. John, I hadn't seen the entry list; thanks for pointing that out. Larry
J_Thompson Posted April 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 28, 2010 I found it here, Larry: http://www.californiamille.com/pdf/CaMillePressRelease0210.pdf BTW, I always download this kind of information and keep it with that event's photo folder, assuming you can find it online. If not, I'll take pictures of the hard copies so the cars and owners can be identified for future use. I am really enjoying your coverage of the California Mille start and eagerly look forward to seeing more of your work. Keep 'em coming!

Excellent advice from John; I have hundreds, no thousands, of racing car shots taken from the late sixties onwards and I've no idea what many of them are now. J_Thompson Posted April 28, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 28, 2010 Excellent advice from John; I have hundreds, no thousands, of racing car shots taken from the late sixties onwards and I've no idea what many of them are now. Pete, with a little sleuthing, maybe you can find the information you want online. More and more enthusiasts (probably older) are doing the legwork and posting old race finishing positions on websites, although they tend to be professional races, not club races. I recently found the results of a 1968 USAC Indy car road race in Las Vegas, and was surprised as to how many details I had either forgotten or mixed up. So, give it a try - you might be surprised at what you find. Good luck.
