andalus Posted April 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I pre-ordered CS 5 Photoshop and I am wondering if anyone knows when it will be available to download? Can't wait to see how the ACR currently in Lightroom 3 Beta performs in Photoshop. I assume it will be that ACR. (?) I assume it will lower the noise in high ISO shots in dark places. Advertisement Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Hi andalus, Take a look here CS 5, WHEN?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted April 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2010 Mid May, IIRC I won't be buying until I can actually download it. Adobe have enough of my money already, without selling me something that isn't available yet. Further, it often pays to wait a couple of weeks to check that there are no "show-stopping bugs" left. Having said that, in my experience, Adobe software is remarkably good straight out of the tin.
jaapv Posted April 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2010 I will wait until I get a new a computer... My current one cannot handle 64 bits, so no CS5 and I am really looking to switch platform and get a Macpro. But first I must gather some money in my photogear account
stunsworth Posted April 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2010 Not al the plugins will work in 64.bit mode anyway. I've had an email from Alien Skin to say their plugins will only work in 32 bit mode at the launch of CS5
andalus Posted April 26, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted April 26, 2010 thanks for info, people. My MacBook Pro, six month old, should be able to handle CS5.
MEB Posted April 26, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 26, 2010 I recently communicated with NIK Software support. They too told me that their current software (Vivesa 2, Silver Efex Pro, etc.) only works in 32 bit. They told me that there is a way to force the new CS5 to work in 32 bit but I'm not sure that I will want to do that. I just hope that they will not charge for an upgrade when their new 64 bit versions come out. Mark Blumer
Marty Posted April 27, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't be too quick to dismiss 32-bit plugins for 64-bit CS5. Lightroom is 64-bit and handles those plugins just fine. No reason to panic just yet. Also, After Effects and Premiere Pro are the only CS5 applications that require a 64-bit operating system. All the others including Photoshop CS5 can also run in 32-bit if you want to. Finally, for those who are waiting to purchase the box vs. download, remember that free shipping is until 12 May. Not sure how much that saves, but a download might well become cheaper after that (or more expensive if that just happens to be the box vs. download price policy). stunsworth Posted April 28, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 28, 2010 Don't be too quick to dismiss 32-bit plugins for 64-bit CS5. Lightroom is 64-bit and handles those plugins just fine. The email from Alien Skin explicitly said that CS5 would have to be run in 32 bit mode for all of their Mac plugins and several of the Windows ones. wlaidlaw Posted April 30, 2010 Share #15 Posted April 30, 2010 All installed and working well. I like the Mini-Bridge tool and the new painting brushes are very clever. The only problem I have is that Noise Ninja is not being recognised as a plug in filter. I wonder if that is because it is a 32 bit tool and I am running in 64 bit on both my MBP and iMac. I have emailed PictureCode asking if there is a fix. I know they have a 64 version for Windows. Wilson
250swb Posted April 30, 2010 Share #16 Posted April 30, 2010 I think it is Wilson, my Noise Ninja only works in 32 bit as do my Nik filters so I have a shortcut on my desktop to both 32 and 64 bit versions and have set Bridge to go to the 32 bit version when opening a file (until the filter makers catch up to 64 bit!). So far no problems, it 'feels' fast and positive. Steve

Do you have to have dual instals to get 64 and 32 bit versions running or have you set it up as an Automator action, to tick and untick the "run in 32 bit mode" box? 250swb Posted April 30, 2010 Share #18 Posted April 30, 2010 I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and it just works, I can go from 32 to 64 versions just by clicking on the appropriate shortcut. Good thing to, I'm usless at anything techie. Steve

Good thing to, I'm usless at anything techie. Steve Steve, There is now a 64 bit version of NN for Windows. The problem is Mac where there is only a 32 bit version. I don't want to run the 32 bit version of CS5 if I can help it, as it is slower than the 64 version. I will just use the CS5 version of noise reduction until the Cocoa (64 bit) version of NN comes out. Wilson
