joecmlin Posted April 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I have this set up but only 2 coded lens so far. my lens is 18mm f/3.8 ASPH (Leica coded) and 35mm 1.4 ASPH (code with Sharpie but recognized by the camera; as far as I can tell, when I push the info button, the diagram showed up). my problem On the camera I set Lens detection ON + UV/IR, 1st curtain, lend dependent auto slow sync; on the SF-58, TTL, pointing forward, F4 (manually set). in all modes (TTL, A, M) I cannot change the MZoom 18 to AZoom. According to the manual, I should be able to do that by pushing the Set button till MZoom or AZoom show up and then change it.... How come I cannot do that? next general question: is there a sync cord that I can use to get this flash away from the body? I am sure this is answered many times but I have trouble finding it as a new coming. thanks for your help.
Advertisement Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Hi joecmlin, Take a look here Leica M8.2 + SF-58 flash + coded lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2010 The first one I cannot answer, for the second one: Use a Nikon cord.
ronnysoh2009 Posted April 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2010 One possibility is your slide-out diffuser or slide-out reflector (doesn't need both, just one) has been slid out. When either one slides out, the SF58 automatically switches the flash dispersion spread to coincide with the spread of an 18mm wide-angle lens. Return BOTH back into the SF58 will allow the flash to auto-adjust the flash spread angle to the lens you use. You can also override the flash spread auto-adjust by manually selecting the flash spread angle differently from the lens you have on. Sometimes have my 35mm lens on, but choose a narrow flash spread of 90mm and bounce it off an adjacent wall, but it's like playing carroms you know, gotta estimate the angle of reflection. Jaap is right - I use a Nikon SC28, and I find that TTL is preserved between camera and flash. But TTL is not preserved when I use Pocket Wizard to wirelessly connect my M8.2 to my SF58. - Ron correction: sliding out the reflector will not cause the camera to auto-adjust the spread to coincide with an 18mm lens. Only sliding the slide-out diffuser will do so.
