David -

Absolutely gorgeous in its simplicity, beautiful early moning light, composition and choice of focus. It feels like what Hopper would have painted had he ever been there. To me this looks like Southern California.

Ivan, Stuart, and John, thanks for commenting. I wasn't sure about this at first, but after looking at it a while, I decided to post it. I quite like it now, actually.

Stuart, this is Long Island Sound, just up the coast from you. Fairfield beach, in the evening ;-)

Cheers, David.

David,

Beautiful photo. Can I go slightly OT on you?

You comment that the photo was taken with the DR Summicron. I thought that the lens would not work on the M8 due to the smaller opening in the body vs. a normal M. Did you modify the rear of your DR for it to work? Is so, how?

Your comments on getting this lens to work would be appreciated. I like the lens, but have been unwilling to experiment with it on my M8.

Thanks,

Ray

David - first I saw your lovely seagull, now this. Bottom line is that you have a great eye for composition.

IMHO, your pics are really better in B&W because of the style (especially the beach). Suggest you give it a try.

Thanks for the comment Jonathan. I have tried this in B/W (and others also), but I seem to be only interested in color at the moment. I thought I would be shooting a lot more B/W with this camera, but I'm just not feelin' it yet I guess...

Ray, the DR must be modified to work on the M8. I will start another thread in the digital forum describing the modification.

Cheers, David.

Hi William, I missed your comment somehow. Thanks for the compliment.

This was taken at Fairfield beach, in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Thanks the time to comment Robert. I am shooting a lot more color with the M8 than I traditionally have with film. It's really nice to make the choice in post though. Cheers!

I'm not really happy with the color in the original post. I think this one is better:

...and here's the B+W, just for fun.

Personally, I like them in this order:

B&W

First color

Second color

I think the first color shot is somehow different in color than most beach shots. Perhaps it's because it's the East instead of West coast (sunset instead of sunrise?). I feel that the second color version approaches more the golden "traditional" for this type of shot, but I prefer the other.

Oh, I think the B&W really makes the features in/over the water (the bird, etc.) really jump out at you!

Thanks!

David,

You must be even busier than I am! Could be a screen issue but the second, warmer version does not appear to be as sharp as the first. Think I might prefer it somewhere in between the two. Since you were there, which is closest to what you remember?
