after Frank Dabba Smith, Grant Rogers the IWM Education Officer, will give a short talk on Auschwitz.

What will the relevance of that be to Frank's subject? If minimal, presumably those of us with no direct interest in this second presentation can drop out of the meeting at that point.

To answer a question asked earlier, photography is permitted in most parts of the IWM, but not in the special exhibitions. The tanks, aircraft and artillery are displayed in the main hall, where the light levels are fairly good. But in some the galleries, the light level is fairly low, so bring your 'fast glass'.

There is also a good snack bar where we can get something to eat, and a cloakroom where jackets can be left.

Whether I can make it or not will depend on whether my local railway service will condescend to run trains on the day - the line has been plagued with weekend engineering works for about a decade.

Eileen and I are still hoping to make it. Are we meeting beforehand? If so, where and when.

Looking forward to meeting everyone again on the 27th.

Potential visit and talk to the London group (and anyone else that wants to come along) on a Sunday (date to be decided but probably May sometime) at the IWM lecture theatre. Illustrated talk on Leica's pre-war and wartime activities, by Frank Dabba Smith.

More details are yet to be confirmed but I hope that

a) there will be a goodly number of takers

B) Entry to the IWM will be free for those participating

c) Internal photography will be allowed

d) we can combine this with e.g. a Westminster area outing.

Should be worthwhile - Who's interested?

Brian (and Ivor!),

Many thanks for your efforts in setting this up. I think a) and B) above have been answered so is there anything to add on c) and d) please?

Pete.

I answered © in posting 23 of this thread. Photography is permitted in all areas apart from special exhibitions.

Looks like there will be trains running on my local line that day, so I should be there (tube services permitting...)

Best regards,

Doug

I think the intention is to meet outside the IWM (weather permitting) at 12 noon or so. Talks start at 1:30. After that I'm possibly going elephant hunting.

Thanks Brian, all being well we'll aim to be outside the IWM at 12'noon.

so 1:30 till?

I'd like to come, but have to come from the Netherlands.

It would be nice if you could come. Most welcome!

Meeting around 12 noon and the 1:30 talk should last around 1 hour. There is another talk scheduled after that, but attendance is definitely not compulsory! It's all informal and up to you.

If you want directions etc. especially from City Airport then PM me.
