wilfredo Posted April 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't believe there is a 58mm UV/IR filter available on the market. Are M8 users with this lens using a 58-55 step down ring? This would allow use of the Leica 55mm UV/IR filter on this lens.
Advertisement Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Nokton f/1.1 Question.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
@bumac Posted April 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2010 There is one from B&W.
roanjohn Posted April 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 6, 2010 Yeah......I use the B&W with no other rings involved.
mabelsound Posted April 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2010 There's also one from a company called, I think, Marumi. I own one--got it on eBay--and it works very well. It's about half the price of the B&W.

It's about half the price of the B&W. I see that this filter is only $45.00 on Ebay and ships from Hong Kong. How do these compare to the German filters? Do they have a solid feel? Multi-coated? Thanks.

wilfredo Posted April 7, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted April 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pete, Thanks for that thread. The discussion on Murami filters seems very credible and thus far everything Ive read indicates that this is a quality filter made in Japan. I haven't seen anything negative about it. LeicaMSeattle Posted April 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2010 I bought and have been using the B+W 58mm on my lens with no issues even before Marumi came onto the market. I would try the Marumi when it comes time to replace filters.
wilfredo Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted April 12, 2010 I decided on the B+W, it's a brand I've come to trust, but it looks like Murami filters are an excellent value. Since the Nokton is a Japanese made lens, I like the idea of slapping something German on it. Crazy isn't it?
@bumac Posted April 12, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 12, 2010 Have you bought a Nokton? You will love it.
LeicaMSeattle Posted April 12, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 12, 2010 The Nokton is an interesting lens. I've taken a very large electrical zip tie and cinched it around the focus ring so that is at infinity and 6 o'clock, cut off the excess and I use the knob to better adjust the critical focus. Very happy with them: the Nokton and the filter
