Nokton f/1.1 Question...

I don't believe there is a 58mm UV/IR filter available on the market. Are M8 users with this lens using a 58-55 step down ring? This would allow use of the Leica 55mm UV/IR filter on this lens.

There is one from B&W.

Yeah......I use the B&W with no other rings involved.

There's also one from a company called, I think, Marumi. I own one--got it on eBay--and it works very well. It's about half the price of the B&W.

I see that this filter is only $45.00 on Ebay and ships from Hong Kong. How do these compare to the German filters? Do they have a solid feel? Multi-coated?

Thanks for that thread. The discussion on Murami filters seems very credible and thus

far everything Ive read indicates that this is a quality filter made in Japan. I haven't seen anything negative about it.

I bought and have been using the B+W 58mm on my lens with no issues even before Marumi came onto the market. I would try the Marumi when it comes time to replace filters.

I decided on the B+W, it's a brand I've come to trust, but it looks like Murami filters are an excellent value. Since the Nokton is a Japanese made lens, I like the idea of slapping something German on it. Crazy isn't it?

The Nokton is an interesting lens. I've taken a very large electrical zip tie and cinched it around the focus ring so that is at infinity and 6 o'clock, cut off the excess and I use the knob to better adjust the critical focus.

Wilfre, I have a Heliopan Thin 58mm filter. Very happy with them: the Nokton and the filter
