Lange Posted April 15, 2010 Share #41 Â Posted April 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just collected my X1, about 2 hours ago.... Yep, the flap is not "fully" closed when the battery is inserted... Â Incidentally, the metal part of my X1 is dark gray... I was expecting the gray steel colour of the M9, but the gray on my X1 is much darker... (just an observation...)..
Advertisement Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Hi Lange, Take a look here X1 skin ailment. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
purduealum91 Posted April 15, 2010 Share #42 Â Posted April 15, 2010 Mine too is not fully closed. I use the grip with mine. Perhaps Leica should use Apple's Macbook contractor to fabricate and assemble our X1s, lol.
jsrockit Posted April 15, 2010 Share #43 Â Posted April 15, 2010 Wow, that sucks, I'd be pissed if my X1's battery door didn't close right. It is spring loaded, so I guess the spring is too powerful?

LVSBB6 Posted April 23, 2010 Share #46 Â Posted April 23, 2010 Just picked up a new X1 and also noticed the leather peeling problem at the corners , is everyone send theirs back to Leica for warranty/repair?
pvak Posted April 25, 2010 Share #47 Â Posted April 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just picked up a new X1 and also noticed the leather peeling problem at the corners , is everyone send theirs back to Leica for warranty/repair? Â I contacted Leica service in Canada about this problem. Although they had already heard from a few customers about the skin peeling, they have not received any information or replacement skins from Leica Germany. They said that I could send in the camera and they will glue the edges back for me or if I wish, I could just do it myself. Well, If I do this myself, (and it's not brain surgery) I won't loose my camera for a month! A real repair would be the replacement of the skin on the camera with one that has a better grade of adhesive than the original skin. So I decided to keep my camera, do the repairs myself and eventually send in the camera before the warranty expires to have them do a definitive replacement (when the problem becomes officially recognized). By the way, a self-repair of the skin will not cancel the warranty (according to Leica Canada) Â Peter
hmisbell Posted April 25, 2010 Share #48 Â Posted April 25, 2010 pvak: Â So how are you repairing the problem?
Dan States Posted April 25, 2010 Share #49 Â Posted April 25, 2010 Perhaps later on they will offer a proper material to replace the material the X1 shipped with. Some of the prototypes had much nicer coverings than the final product.
pvak Posted April 28, 2010 Share #50 Â Posted April 28, 2010 pvak:Â So how are you repairing the problem? Â Rubber cement, very carefully applied. Â Peter
Hythe Posted May 1, 2010 Share #51 Â Posted May 1, 2010 I took my X1 back to Leica Mayfair and they said they had not heard of peeling vulcanite. But they said I should bring it in again after the weekend and they will send it back, probably to Solms. Now here's the shock: Before I left the shop I bought a pair of little Leica binoculars - Ultravid 8X20. Guess what I found when I got home. Yes, peeling skin! - the corners are lifting on the Ultravid - same as on the X1. Leica will eventually start to lose the reputation for quality when unfaithful people like us spread the word. Oh, I just looked at the little leaflet to fill in for a prize draw - it says 'Thank you for your confidence.'

stephen.w Posted May 2, 2010 Share #54 Â Posted May 2, 2010 One has to question the design philosophy of putting faux leather on all one's products. 50 years ago it might have been a functional choice, but clearly no longer.

You have a good point there. I just looked at my MIII at least I think that's what it is. But was certainly made years before I was born (and I'm not a spring chicken either.) The Vulcanite on it is as tight as a drum. And is really beautifully finished. Well I can now say with confidence Leica don't make 'em like they used to. Is it true the German governemnt recently bailed Leica out of trouble? Someone in a certain London retail outlet told me

Douglasco Posted May 19, 2010 Share #60 Â Posted May 19, 2010 I am on holiday and the vulcanite has just started to peel off,so I will send it back when I get home. My Digilux 2 that I also took with me has given me no problems and I bought that secondhand.
