twistedpixel Posted December 20, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) These are part of an ongoing assignment I began a few years ago, first using a 4x5, then an MF 6x6, eventually I transitioned to digital with a D-SLR and finally to the M8. Using the M8, I'm about 10x more productive with this type of photography, so much that a few buyers have been asking about the camera, something that never occurred before. RaySwan Posted December 20, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 20, 2006 What a neat concept, street photography with points of interest !! Very nice work. I've looked at thousands of shots that looked like someone tripped the shutter while falling down! It's really nice to see a picture where you can put yourself in the image. I also like the easy feeling they convey. Are you shooting a chrome body by any chance?

semrich Posted December 20, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 20, 2006 I really like all of your shots in this series, especially the last one with the kind of hidden disinterested look. Very nice detail and tonal quality to all of them. What lens are you using?
squanmis Posted December 21, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 21, 2006 Love the shots. The M8 looks to be a great street photography piece of equipment. Thanks for sharing. John
twistedpixel Posted December 21, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted December 21, 2006 I really like all of your shots in this series, especially the last one with the kind of hidden disinterested look. Very nice detail and tonal quality to all of them. What lens are you using? I've been using the summicron 28/f2 for virtually 90% of all my images. I can get usually at 2 to 3m distance from the subject without too many problems. If I shoot at iso 160 I almost always keep the camera at a horizontal aspect ratio and then crop to vertical when I had that framing in mind in the first place. I find that focusing holding the camera vertical is too slow for this kind of 'instant' photography. One thing I wished a few times was for the M8 to have a quieter shutter release. Sometimes it is impossible to go unnoticed, but then, occasionally I get lucky and still manage to capture an interesting shot like the two below here. Welcome, dear visitor! Thanks, Alessandro Great shots; thanks for posting them. I aspire to the same when I'm shooting in Kuala Lumpur where I stay much of the time on business. I have posted a few here before from my new M8 - not to your standard though! Please can you give some information on how you are converting to B&W. Many thanks. twistedpixel Posted December 21, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted December 21, 2006 Great shots; thanks for posting them. I aspire to the same when I'm shooting in Kuala Lumpur where I stay much of the time on business. I have posted a few here before from my new M8 - not to your standard though! Please can you give some information on how you are converting to B&W. Many thanks. Jon Thanks Jon, I've been very lucky lately. I think most of the credit goes to how little effort I have to apply when using the M8. I've been used to lugging around a big d-slr with a couple of lenses, not a very unconspicuous setup for this genre. With the M8 (and any M Leica for that matter) I just head out with one lens and don't worry about anything else and just focus my attention on looking for something interesting. Despite the fact I own virtually every raw converter available, I have settled with Lightroom to process the DNG files. I have no set recipe as each image has it's own character, but generally an 'S' curve or a variation of it will do the job. Sometimes I tweak values in the Channel Mixer to just get the right effect. Alessandro Thanks, Alessandro; I agree with you on the weight issue. I just got shot of my Nikon D2XS and a slew of big lenses. I am now invested in the M8 and M lenses - what a relief. I got a 5D and a long zoom for the long stuff when I need it. I will try Lightroom; I like the look of your B&W pictures; they have much more punch than I am achieving. Very nice shots that you just posted by the way. Happy Xmas.
