This is popping up in multiple places but the souce is always the same. A journalist would need more than one corroborated source before giving the story any credibility. One would expect far more than one of these cameras to have been distributed to capable people for field testing and pre-review and given this amount of chatter either one of these, their associates or friends would let something slip.

It is said that Epson took a financial and reputational pasting with the RD1. This is a relatively small market. Nobody else would enter it with the idea of making money. The only reason would be some sort of prestige trip and as Epson found out that was a high risk strategy.

I will remain highly sceptical until there is some real evidence.

I've never had one in my hand, but my understanding is that you focus with a wheel with no visual feedback in the viewfinder.

Yeah, that was pretty much it. If I recall there was a focus confirmation light, but you weren't really sure what it was actually focused on, rather something was in focus. Loved that camera in my hand and the lenses were very nice, but the lack of knowing what point it was actually focusing on was a serious limitation for me.

Everybody is speculating Zeiss(Sony) I still am deeply suspicious of the date, but it is known that Zeiss was interested in an ff rangefinder, and that they issued a rather curious semi-official "we are not interested" statement last year. But Jeff Ascough is an official Canon guy who fills his blog with Canon advertorials. So the indicators go in rather diverse directions.

As for competition, I think an M-mount full frame camera that follows a different design philosophy from Leica would be a good thing to happen. It would strengthen the market and be of advantage to Leica as well in the long run.

There is a moderator on this site and in this thread that said he is also under a NDA and could not comment. Why any person/business/company would make someone sign a NDA for a NON product.

As to it being a RF that is possible with EVF and a electronic displayed center patch just like the optical RF.

Epson's product, the R-D1, was far from perfect in any respect. Don't forget that when thinking about how they lost money.

For its time it was quite well done. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. It's still a viable product. I only wish the RF had a wider base.

Oddly enough, I've not seen anything anywhere which says the camera's NOT made by Leica - "bigger than an M9" doesn't mean "not a Leica"... maybe the M10's here earlier than expected? I'd be very surprised (and not a little pissed off after putting £11,000 into the M9 system this year), but a lot of us were surprised by the M9 coming so soon...

Oh dear - the advent of digital really does mean we're suffering the curse of living in interesting times...

Yep, I fully agree.

But whatever it is - I hope it has a good built-in viewfinder. Please not another hold-at-arm's-length-or-buy-a-fiddly-external-viewfinder camera!

What's the name for that action where you shake your head and make a wibble wobble sound, and meant to indicate complete disbelief? Let's say it's a shawibble. So, okay, imagine I am shawibbling.

It would be akin to letting the loonies run the asylum if Leica were to announce another product when they are still trying to get other products out in order to meet demand. They have to make money and show that they are capable pf delivering a real return on investment. Another product to roll out and manage would drain management, financial, production and marketing resources. So I guess they are quite likely to try it.

Chris somewhere in this thread Jeff stated something to the effect "and it Not a Leica". Or so it was reported since the time of the first twitter post his twitter site/area is locked down.

BTW, doesn't the bit about "pull the images as the traffic caused my server to crash" give away that this is a prank? His blog is hosted by TypePad, isn't it? They'll be able to deal with a few gearheads following a rangefinder rumor. Plus, it's on the same server as his normal blog which uses photos all over the place.

Of the 15 or 20 NDAs I've signed, only one related to a specific product (and that only existed as a prototype). All the rest have related to things that might one day contribute to something that could form part of a product.

I've never been able to work out how that would be possible. If you're not under NDA, can you explain the set-up?

It'll be the cheapest full frame Canon with an external viewfinder in the hotshoe. The alternative is that it doesn't exist. Either way it'll be a prank. Something doesn't seem right about the whole thing, I'm sure Jeff is smiling at how seriously it's all being taken.

If it were some kind of viral campain, why would a major manufacturer rely on 'leaks' from a photographer most people haven't heard of?
