Rick59 Posted March 28, 2010 Share #43 Posted March 28, 2010 I too and I'm very pleased with the image-quality. The cam by itself is a wonderful piece of engineering. delnerdo Posted March 28, 2010 Share #44 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Indeed the IQ is outstanding. However the autofocus frequently fails completely on dead simple scenes that countless other cameras can handle with no problem. Also it's lacking some flow of the D-Lux 3 & 4. For instance, I don't see how to get it out of playback mode without shutting off then on again. The continuous capture mode is a joke because it locks the display after a single frame. And you can't connect it to a computer with the lens cap on. The aperture dial spins recklessly and you find yourself at its mercy. Setting the aperture via software/joystick was more reliable than the randomly spinning dial. And there's no raw-only mode, just raw+jpeg - I end up deleting all the jpegs... what's the point? Maybe the X10 will be better. X11? I'm not sure it was worth the 200 days of waiting and hefty price tag but will give it more time. Surely it looks nice on a shelf next to the others. ezc203 Posted March 28, 2010 Author Share #46 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) delnerdo - We all know the X1 has its limitations and I, for one, am very eager for a FW update to fix some of the kinks in the interface (as you have pointed out). But that said, the purpose of this thread is to celebrate the X1 for what it is and not complain about its short comings (there are enough threads that do just that). So to re-direct this thread onto a more positive path, here is an "action shot" with the X1. Not perfect, some may even find this image "not acceptable" but I like it! "Kickin' It!" - March 2010 - My buddy Joe really enjoys his Elvis and whiskey. And my demin jacket! ... Edited March 28, 2010 by ezc203

Some help to your problems. - exiting play-mode: eg half-press shutter button. - connection to PC: plug usb while X1 is off and cap on, turn X1 on and voilá, you have cap on usb mode. - only RAW-mode I am missing too. I use the Raw + jpeg often on my M8, and plan to on my X1. I like shooting a jpeg in b&w so I can see it after the shot for tonal checks, and then coverting RAW later in post... I can kind of understand the hassle of deleting jpegs if you don't want them. I just sort by format and batch delete. Memory cards are large enough now so that should not be an issue unless you plan to shoot 300 shots before download to any other device. Still, that should have been a function for sure. delnerdo Posted March 31, 2010 Share #50 Posted March 31, 2010 I do apologize for crashing into this thread. There was a post with approximately the same title a few months ago, and I had mistaken this for that. It is clearly a powerful tool and like most powerful tools is not simple to master. My love for this camera will grow with experience. It only makes me regret my slow reflexes as the missed opportunities slip out of frame. Thank you for the tips, ptu. ezc203 Posted March 31, 2010 Author Share #51 Posted March 31, 2010 No need to apologize. I think you bring up some very valid arguments and Leica should really look into improving those weaknesses. BUT, the focus of this thread is to celebrate the X1 for all its positives. So let's see some photos!
Ecaton Posted March 31, 2010 Share #52 Posted March 31, 2010 I love my X1, but ooohhh boy its AF speed is even bettered by the Sigma DP2 (by quite a margin) after firmware update. A firmware update is overdue. Ricoh and Sigma have set the bar.
h00ligan Posted March 31, 2010 Share #53 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) It will be interesting to see if the dp2s is any faster than the dp2 with firmware upgrade.. aside from cosmetic changes it seems to be the same cam with newer software (that older owners can get). I would love to see a shootout between the dp2 and x1 same subjects, light, time, etc... do you have both? here's a shootout - http://www.neutralday.com/leica-x1-vs-sigma-dp2-two-photographers-compacts-compared/ sorry for the ot post - back to loving your x1's and making me jealous Edited March 31, 2010 by h00ligan

magnolio Posted April 10, 2010 Share #60 Posted April 10, 2010 must say I can't wait, here in Peru (Latin America) to be able to buy my X1. My only wish is a more accurate manual focusing and (one can dream) a somewhat faster AF. But I'm glad to be in this forum leica and longing to send pictures. magnolio panasonic GF1, former leica user
