jackperk Posted March 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is for charging your M9 batteries. I got this from a Leica rep. Maybe you've heard of it but for those who have not --- Because the power brick and extra cord that comes as the power supply for the M9 batteries is more awkward than I'd like, I asked advice on what to do to lose it. As I am use a Macbook Pro, the answer was easy: Slide the connector off of the corner of the computer's white power brick -- the one that can be changed to accommodate different outlet configurations -- and use it to connect directly from the plug to the battery charging appliance. Insert the battery. You're charging. It works. And if you have a Macbook Pro it gives you a much less cumbersome way of doing keeping your M9 powered as well.. jp

Elmo Posted March 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2010 Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter (for 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro) Apple is selling it for US$79. I assume it is the same voltage/amperage that the M9 expects. I'll check it out
vanhulsenbeek Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 18, 2010 We are talking of the connector here! It only replaces the cord.
matlep Posted March 18, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2010 We are talking of the connector here! It only replaces the cord. Correct. And if you pay $79 for the connector you have paid about $78 too much.

marknorton Posted March 18, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2010 I'm pleased the OP chose to edit his post to clarify because I cannot imagine what it would have been like before. Surely all he's doing is using the Apple mains cable (power cord, in US-speak) to power the Leica charger? Or was his "clarification" insufficient for this simpleton? AlanJW Posted March 18, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) There have been other posts about using a figure 8 cord or plug other than the Leica supplied one. But surely we are not talking about a power source for the M9 but a power cord for the battery charger.
Rolo Posted March 18, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 18, 2010 Bought my wall socket Apple 3-pin plug on ebay for £1.50. Pull the cord out of the M9 charger and plug the charger directly into the 3-pin plug. It's the same plug that's used for the iPod. Excellent space saver. gwelland Posted March 19, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 19, 2010 For those using US plugs I just replace the long power cord with short 1ft power cord - less than $2.

Ed_K Posted March 19, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 19, 2010 I assume this only applies to the "new" compact charger but not the original standard one, correct?
brill64 Posted March 19, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 19, 2010 Not the best fit (in the wall socket) but works great if you travel w/ a MBP. i've just used this apple flat pin set up to charge batteries whilst traveling around china, just in case anyone is interested, you have to search for a wall socket that works.. Bo_Lorentzen Posted March 19, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 19, 2010 Different approach for me. I cut 3 regular black charger cables to 12 inches, soldered them together to one wall pluck, and shrink wrapped it, one wall-plug gets me 3 chargers working. Got a couple of these in the carry on case, works beautifully, the greatest thing is that all the chargers I have works with 100-240v.. gotta love todays world. . matlep Posted March 19, 2010 Share #16 Posted March 19, 2010 Not the best fit (in the wall socket) but works great if you travel w/ a MBP. A tip would be to turn the pins on the plug to the other direction. So the battery is facing away rom the wall. Anyways, thats how i do it.

Anyways, thats how i do it. Agreed, I just did it this way for the photo. The problem is either way, its not flush with the edge of the charger so it does not go all the way into the wall socket. Btw, you probably realized by now that the nice flush fit Apple power cable can be replaced on the road by a standard '8' power cable for any consumer device. I've had the cable failure you mention and this has enabled me to keep going without dependence on the Apple connector.
