Hello M8 Forum,

I'm interested in the possibilities of an M8 Camera as a Creative Infrared Photography tool, but finding info on L•Camera is proving frustrating. My search 'fu' can't seem to overcome the obvious furvor over it's IR challenges relating to shooting in visible light and the posts directly or tangentally referencing the issue.

Seeking specifically Threads, Links, Users, and Image Samples, which can give me a sense of what I might derive 'Infrared-wise' from acquiring an M8. I saw ONE Infrared Image in a thread, but can't find it again!

Thanks For Any Help!

WestMichgan you don't say if you are interested in color or B&W IR with the M8. I have been using the M8 for B&W IR work since I bought mine when they first came out. It was really the reason I bought one and if you want to see some examples of B&W IR capabilities go here Infra Red A Study Of Light Beyond The Visible on the Behance Network.

I've been taking a lot of IR pictures with the M8, both with the Leitz IR filter (which seems to be approximately R72 like) and an 87C and both are working well. If you check my profile on photo.net (Gallery Folder - photo.net) and then look at the Sweetwater Creek and Red Top Mountain, you'll find some infrared M8 pictures using both black and white rendition and false color.

In general I find that in winter, you have to work a little harder to get an infrared effect but that the M8 filter is VERY sensitive to IR and works very well as an IR camera. With the Leitz IR filter (or an R72) the result is deep red but with some color for false color effects. With the 87C the result is a magenta image which is really only good for black and white. I've been using it on a tripod and adjusting the focus by three lines closer focus using f/8 or f/11.

Hi Everyone,

thanks for your responses to my question. I'll follow through on the links provided. I am 'primarily' interested in B&W IR coming from shooting Kodak High Speed Infrared (once upon a time), but intend to explore the color IR stuff as well. I'll include an old Kodak IR 35mm shot I have up on Flickr.
