ho_co Posted March 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2010 And it's coming from Ricoh, an unexpected source! Thanks for the heads-up! (Also mentioned at http://www.dpreview.com/news/1003/10031101ricohcpplus.asp.)
stkorn Posted March 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2010 the frankencamera look just doesn't do it for me
earleygallery Posted March 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2010 I like the basic idea, but I think it's one of those ideas which don't quite work in practice. If you're going to make such a system camera do it with something FF at least. What's the point in using manual focus M lenses on a camera with a 2x crop sensor? larbel Posted March 11, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The whole point of GXR is interchangable sensor as well, the sensor is builded into the lens module so no, it's not going to be a 2x crop sensor for the M mount moudle I don't think, but doubt it could be FF either.. wstotler Posted March 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2010 Hey--thanks for posting! The M-mount module is interesting. But the Hasselblad module is even more interesting.
barjohn Posted March 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2010 If it uses an APS-C sensor it is 1.5x not 2x; however, imagine if they decide to make it FF. An M9 in a smaller package that can use any Leica M lens. By the way ignore the appearance as it is a very early prototype and I can tell you first hand the appearance and quality of their finished products is superb. Box Brownie Posted March 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2010 I have read on the internet ( which means it may or may not be true, so take this with a pinch of salt ) that one of the GXR modules ( the 50mm APSC one I think ) and the X1 actually share the same sensor. Therefore, if Ricoh do choose to offer this camera with an M mount, it could effectively be the same sensor as the X1 but with the ability to take M lenses..... If it is real, I can imagine M lenses on ebay being even more in demand than they are already !
barjohn Posted March 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 11, 2010 The beauty of the GXR system is you are only limited by two things, imagination and technology. Since the latter is constantly changing sooner or later it catches up the with first.
Logic108 Posted March 11, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 11, 2010 I'm not sure that it will come to market but hope that it does. A FF sensor maybe from the NIkon D700 would be great. Have to say that I like Ricoh's philosophy/strategy. Here's hoping that it will come out.
jsrockit Posted March 11, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 11, 2010 Since Ricoh made the 28mm from the GR P&S into an M lens a bunch of years ago, I would imagine this will come to fruition.
ho_co Posted March 12, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 12, 2010 According to today's The Online Photographer: You Can't Trust Rumors, it's not a prototype, but a mockup by a Ricoh enthusiast. (That would also explain why they show it with an old and beat-up Leitz finder.) Perhaps someone who reads Japanese could verify? There's a photo with a caption, but it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the article itself. Anyway, as we know, there's only one sensor on the market that can deal with the M lenses, and that one took a lot of investment by Leica and Kodak. jaapv Posted March 12, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 12, 2010 I think the Ricoh is a highly interesting camera, well worth consideration. But history shows that most, if not all, of such brilliant concepts are doomed to be less than successful, and end up being nothing more than a cult product at best.
