giordano Posted March 11, 2010 Share #61 Posted March 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't think it's unreasonable for Leica to insist on the documentation - rather like trying to take something back to a shop when you've lost the receipt. I think it is unreasonable, given that they know Mitch owns the camera because they themselves supplied it to him as a replacement. After all, they wouldn't have done that if they weren't satisfied with the documentation, would they? Simples!
Advertisement Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi giordano, Take a look here Leica needs to fix Service and Customer Support department. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

After all, they wouldn't have done that if they weren't satisfied with the documentation, would they? Simples! But Mitch no longer owns the camera, that's the point here. Please keep up! Anyway storm in teacup has been ridden and now we can all calm down again.
earleygallery Posted March 11, 2010 Share #63 Posted March 11, 2010 Ok, not sure how long this will last, but whilst its a bit rude, it is funny... If the moderators think its a bit rude, you can paste "pebkac.homelinux.net" into google images. Daniel. This is brilliant!

Mark2 Posted March 13, 2010 Share #65 Posted March 13, 2010 I am new to Leica, why do you have to send back the M9 twice? Looks like the quality control is not very good. I have purchased many Canon and Nikon cameras. All of them have never required servicing. German engineeering
meatboy Posted March 13, 2010 Share #66 Posted March 13, 2010 Then i don't see any good reason why they refuse to help out one of their regular customers. I know Leica is not Rolls Royce or Van Cleef but i would expect a better service from one of the dearest photo brands in the world. In 30+ years of practice i've not been accustomed to such a rigid behavior. Is this the new Leica? +1 Leica is like the Rolls Royce of cameras. At AU$9K for a 18Mpixel camera I'd expect sterling service - particulary on one that is practically new !

German engineering So you are a random sample of .... one opinion! Think about to bigger picture. The more sampling, the more accurate the apparent outcome. regarding Canon's and Nikon's (since you mention them), their working performance, in my case, is inferior to Leica, which is why I choose Leica. When the C&N are not working, well, that is just as disappointing as Leica or any other non-working camera. Then, the old "apples & oranges' argument appears. Nobody, Leica included, is ever going to deliver the miracle camera so get used to periodic problems and cover your situation with a backup while you sort the inevitable service problems. lct Posted March 13, 2010 Share #68 Posted March 13, 2010 ...Leica has now informed me if there is a need for the new buyer to have warranty service before I am able to send him the original papers all he has to do is to send them together with the camera the scanned copy of the warranty card that I gave him, which is stamped by the dealer... Exactly what i expected from Leica. Congrats to them for letting common sense prevail over rigidity.
BKK dan Posted March 13, 2010 Share #69 Posted March 13, 2010 Agree Mitch, this is not in Leica's responsibility. Have your own house in order - or wait with the selling of the camera until you got all papers together. Clearly not Leica's fault. But if you're stubborn enough they give in, so there you go. But again, it's not their fault, policy is clear.
earleygallery Posted March 13, 2010 Share #70 Posted March 13, 2010 The problem with these kind of threads or rather thread titles is that a potential Leica buyer will do a search for 'Leica M9' and may well be frightened away before looking further. I'd suggest that the Mods should re-title this and similar threads. It's not fair to Leica's reputation IMHO.
biglouis Posted March 13, 2010 Share #71 Posted March 13, 2010 Well this is the final nail in the coffin for me, definitely a serious problem with the camera if it needs the paperwork to operate correctly...
earleygallery Posted March 13, 2010 Share #72 Posted March 13, 2010 Not much operates without a piece of paper when you think about it Louis. Birth certificate, Death certificate, Passport, Insurance policies..... Buy a property, the essential thing isn't the bricks and mortar, it's the piece of paper that proves the freehold or lease belongs to you!

I also think that the discussion has run its course, so in the interests of a harmonious forum, I will close the thread.
