damnsharp Posted March 7, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted March 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good evening, Does anyone has the Leica ever ready case? When yes, could you please show a few pictures of the X1 in that case and tell us your experience? I am still thinking of buying a ready case next to my leather case. Because I don't think I need a hand grip maybe for me the Luigi half case is fine enough.
Advertisement Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi damnsharp, Take a look here Leica ever ready case. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lostinspb Posted March 8, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted March 8, 2010 I too am wanting an ever ready case for my X1. The Leica case is out of the questions as I want the entire package to be as small as possible and will not be using the handgrip. I emailed Luigi and the X1 full case will be ready to show by the end of the month. It will be like the half case, but with a flip down/removable cover for the front and top of the camera. I think this will be the case that I want as it is the best of both worlds, protection when traveling and can easily convert to the half case if I choose. Now I need to decide on a color, the rally looks good but the black goes with the color scheme of the camera.
damnsharp Posted March 8, 2010 Author Share #3  Posted March 8, 2010 I truly like the natural aged brown look of the Luigi case (see http://www.leicatime.com/HalfNaturalAgedBrownX1sdr1warnOK.jpg) My "problem" is that the half case is expensive (€ 160 in black but € 180 in natural aged brown) but not protect the whole camera. The full case from Luigi I find it costs too much for me (€ 240 no grip, € 260 with grip for normal colors).
damnsharp Posted March 9, 2010 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 9, 2010 Maybe useful for others: on another topic I found that Stephen wrote "Unfortunately it only works where the handgrip is attached. I thought about getting that bag, but couldn't justify paying the price they were asking for the handgrip. I bought an old discontinued Leica bag (part number 14522) designed to carry an M and a collapsible 50mm lens. It is (just) big enough to fit the X1 with viewfinder attached." larbel Posted March 9, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted March 9, 2010 Someone is selling the ever ready at EvilBoy right now and with quite a few good views of the case if you want to take a look. The back is wide open without the top cover, and yes, you'll have to have the grip to use it...
damnsharp Posted March 9, 2010 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 9, 2010 Ah Larbel, thanks. I had to think what you mean but I guess you mean this link: LEICA X1 EVER-READY USA NEW! - eBay (item 180477490275 end time Apr-04-10 13:39:21 PDT)
stephen.w Posted March 9, 2010 Share #7  Posted March 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is the case I bought. It was made to carry an M camera with collapsible lens attached. It it slightly high for the X1, but because of this it can hold the camera with an external viewfinder attached. It also has plenty of space next to where the lens extends to hold a spare battery and SD card.  It is also extremely well-padded, unlike some of the other Leica cases.  As I said in a previous post, the case has been discontinued, but it is not inconceivable that they pop up on eBay from time-to-time. eduardoho Posted March 9, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted March 9, 2010 I have ordered one from Optics Planet, a saddle color, for USD129.99 but they have yet to confirm for a shipment date.I wish for a black color though.
damnsharp Posted March 9, 2010 Author Share #9  Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks Stephen for the images! Yes that's a case I need, with my Voightlander VF (nice little bag it's in!) and spare SD and spare battery it looks perfect. I must say the Leica leather case I now have, I find it beautiful so I will probably keep that also  And thx eduardoho, I tried Optics Planet but I cannot find it, do you have a web link? dkCambridgeshire Posted March 13, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted March 13, 2010 I just received my complimentary case from Leica via my dealer ... Leica gave complimentary cases to customers who pre-ordered cameras last year ... this is the "camera with grip" type case unpacked this morning :
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 13, 2010 Share #11  Posted March 13, 2010    The SBLOO 3.5cm finder is a tight fit in the viewfinder case ... don't insert it with eyepiece end in first as it will get stuck in the case!  Case is also provided with this moleskin type fabric pouch.  ... I am colour blind and confused as to what colour the case is. A colleague has just advised it is silver ... can someone please confirm the colour?  My X1 camera has a fault and has been returned to Leica thus cannot show you a picture of the camera in the case  Thanks  dunk

wda Posted March 13, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted March 13, 2010 Dunk, your case looks light grey to me which sort of matches the gun-metal parts of the camera. I would prefer it in black. However mine hasn't arrived yet! I hope you get a replacement camera soon.
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 13, 2010 Share #14  Posted March 13, 2010 Dunk, your case looks light grey to me which sort of matches the gun-metal parts of the camera. I would prefer it in black. However mine hasn't arrived yet! I hope you get a replacement camera soon.  Thanks David. I'm not expecting a fast turnround ref the replacement X1 but i've got a few projects lined up for it and want to start them asap.  Cheers  dunk
damnsharp Posted March 15, 2010 Author Share #15 Â Posted March 15, 2010 Thanks for all those big fat images, guys... my mobile 'phone bill will be all the bigger for them :mad: In my humble opinion when you look on a photo related website with a mobile phone you can expect to see large images. I am glad dunk posted those images because than we can see well how the case will look.
eduardoho Posted March 15, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted March 15, 2010 Heeeiiii....that's not fair. Nothing was mentioned for us the other poor souls on this side of the North Atlantic...who waited patiently too....and according to Leica 2009 financial the US/Canada is the third largest segment of their market @ 20.8%....ha ha ha...just kidding. dkCambridgeshire Posted March 15, 2010 Share #17  Posted March 15, 2010 Forgot to mention that the above case has magnetic fasteners which enable fast access to the camera.  Cheers  dunk
Hythe Posted March 16, 2010 Share #18 Â Posted March 16, 2010 Good, glad to hear a UK owner has the free case. I hope Leica Mayfair will ring me soon. I've been looking forward to another trip to the smoke to get my complimenary case. I wonder if they'll have the viewfinder, hand grip and spare battery. earleygallery Posted March 17, 2010 Share #19 Â Posted March 17, 2010 I felt that the X1 should have had a built in optical finder and a fixed position lens design. The argument that this would have added too much bulk to the camera seems moot when you see the design of the case!
bill Posted March 17, 2010 Share #20 Â Posted March 17, 2010 Thank you for your humble opinion, Damian. There is a PHOTO sub-forum for photos. Â Regards, Â Bill
