Advertisement Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Leica's IR-Cut Filters . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sean_reid Posted December 15, 2006 Author Share #42 Posted December 15, 2006 The LFI article claims that 35mm lenses will need coding, but maybe they are being pedantic. I haven't seen that article. I say 35 mm based directly on my own tests. Cheers, Sean
gesper Posted December 15, 2006 Share #43 Posted December 15, 2006 It's still not clear to me why it makes a difference which side is out. It would seem that the IR filter only lets through the "good" wavelengths and doesn't let through the others. It would do this regardless of which side the light came from. Besides, it is hard to believe a maker of top quality filters like B+W could have so much random variation in their production process unless it doesn't make any difference. billh Posted December 16, 2006 Share #44 Posted December 16, 2006 Have to say that in spite of my avowed intention to keep using the R-D1 post M8, I am not. The M8 is so superior to use. I sure agree. There is no comparison. I gave mine to my buddy Walter - it may wean him from sheet film and introduce him to the digital age. I gave him a couple of B & W Museo Silver rag prints I made from a scan of a negative of his and he seemed surprised at the quality.
loretdem Posted December 16, 2006 Share #45 Posted December 16, 2006 It's an euphemism my friend... Got it. Your collection and use of smilies is unparalleled among rangefinder aficionados. Would be easier to find out than a series 5 IR-cut filter for the non-coded Summicron 40/2 i guess. You got that right! I'm really mediocre at this smilie thing. Sorry. Back to you, Sean... -Carlos

ho_co Posted December 16, 2006 Share #49 Posted December 16, 2006 But an interesting troll with definite point of view. I don't think our sentence structure works well for him. Clearly, saying "I gave my camera to so-and-so, and I hope it brings him into the digital age" was said with a twinkle in the eye, but that didn't come through to Blasko. For him, the sentence comes through at its literal level. --HC
carstenw Posted December 16, 2006 Share #50 Posted December 16, 2006 He who? He hit my ignore list with his first ridiculous comment, A.K.A. his first comment.
marknorton Posted December 17, 2006 Share #51 Posted December 17, 2006 Sean, given what Ray is finding regarding flare from the filters he uses and some pretty graphic examples of how bad it can get, it will be very interesting to hear whether the sample filters you have exhibit the same behaviour. sean_reid Posted December 17, 2006 Author Share #52 Posted December 17, 2006 A test camera with the hardware fixes should be here Monday or Tuesday and then I'll start working on various tests for Part Five (mixed in with holiday things). That will include comparisons of how the three different filters (B+W 486, Schneider 486 MRC and Heliopan) perform side by side. The Heliopan doesn't seem to be a full-strength IR-cut filter but I'll test it nonetheless. Cheers, Sean
