Leica Summicron 35mm Pre-ASPH Review

I do own this lens, a 1983 'Jubilee' engraved one. When I found out how good it is on the M9, I sent it to Leica for coding and general refurbishing. It now looks and feels mint.

Here is a shot I made yesterday with it at a local motorcycle museum. Halogen light, auto AWB, ISO 1000, f:4 and speeds between 1/60 and 1/24. The other frames are equally good.

The old man from the Age of Walter Benser (he designed the lens, you know).

Thanks for the review... Nice cat!

The first Leica lens I ever bought (alongside an M6). I funded the process with some unexpected consultancy earnings + the sale of my father's ex-luftwaffe Leica 3G and a 50mm Elmar - great for collectors, but not such a good tool for a working photographer. That was about 15 years ago. I had the lens coded and CLA'd by Malcolm Taylor (in the UK) when I got the M8 and it's continued to be a mainstay of my photography. NO desire to go for the larger heavier lux, or to replace with the aspherical version (though I agree that this is a beautiful lens...)
