Digilux 2 values

I think one or two people are collecting good examples. The D2 has already become legendary in a way possibly even Leica were not expecting. You also have to remember that many celebrities and highly successful people often buy Leicas, for good reasons. With a few exceptions, I guess many of those specimens survive in remarkably good condition when they enter the market.

Should we start hoarding D2s for future sale? Just seen mint one with accessories go on ebay for £1000...!!!

Is it going to become a collectors' classic?

Bought mine on ebay for about £500 in almost perfect condition. Now that's beginning to look almost a bargain.....

I would be a bit saddened and disappointed if the result of several people's passion for the D2 turns it into an investment vehicle rather than a camera that brings back the joy of photography to many people.

Like several other people on the forum, I have more than one D2 (3 to be exact) because I use them a lot (pretty much every day) and I know that they'll eventually break (or get dropped, stolen, lost, etc.) I also go out taking photos with my wife and it's cool that we each have one.

I am not being judgmental of the idea, just being upfront about my reaction to the concept of hoarding D2s vs. seeing them being used and appreciated.

P.S. The purest and most selfless act of sharing the passion for this camera I saw is when a forum member loaned his to another member a few weeks back.

Haven't seen them for £1000 more like £450-700, but I did pay the hgher end of that range for my almost mint example. I have not approached it as a collector but as a photographer. In the 6-7 weeks I have owned it I have taken more photographs with it than I did in the previous 2 years. It really has re-kindled my interest in photography, I love using it and have started two new projects that I have planned for a couple of years but couldn't motivate myself to start. It's got me out of a rut.

It would be a shame if a load of these got into the hands of collectors, but I don't think this will happen. I just think that the resurgence of interest in this camera has been generated mostly in this forum and the D2s being sold now will be used for photography rather than sitting in a cupboard. I might get another one in a few months as a backup as I now couldn't bear to be without one, but I can guarantee that it will be used well.

Love my D2 will keep it until it dies

Just looking for a couple of Genuine batts within the UK, they cannot last forever.

If anyone knows where i may grab them please tell me.

Search for the Panasonic article. Since the camera is produced by Panasonic, it stands to reason that those qualify as "orgininal article".

P/N CGR-S602E should do the trick.

Actually, the Panasonic batter for the DMC L1 (Digilux 3) is even better. It fits and has more capacity. ;) Panasonic parts has plenty of either, though.

Seriously, I wouldn't get carried away with the passion. It's not a collectible item. At least not for another 20 years. :) Personally, I don't ever want to be without one... and I'd like to have a dozen or so to use them to teach with.

But I do think the "mob" mentality of the core group here tends to overstate the popularity. It's a terrific camera. But electronics fail ... it will hurt any notion of collectivity.

A lot of members are D2 fans, but not many seem to know of the D2 Social Group on this Forum. Please join us. At the top of this page click on Community, select Social Groups, select D2 and join in.

Hu Stuny,

just that hard to find social groups links are one of the reasons many do not know about the Digilux 2 group here! And after 2 petitions, there is clear that the admins are NOT WILLING to install a separate Digilux 2 forum. So I made a link inside my signature which leads directly to the D2 user group in the LUF.

I have a couple of originals BP-DC 1 (I did conserve in a fridge at +

5°C to maintain capacity).

Tested OK recently for capacity. I live on Belgium . Are you interested ?

A search on Panasonic UK for the part number produces "no results". Back in 2005 when I got the D2 (with 2 x "Leica branded" batteries) I also bought a half dozen Hong Kong copies; these have performed well but now a couple have died completely and another is on the way out.

Where can I buy some with a Panasonic badge?
