dpattinson Posted February 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) For quite some time (years) I've had a small 'shiny' mark on the lowest shutter blade in my M8. Anyway, I noticed these two threads about torn shutter blades: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/93843-m8-damaged-shutter-how-could-happen.html#post983108 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/20034-m8-shutter-blade-fracture.html#post212348 And it dawned on me that the mark on my shutter blade is in the very same position as the major tear in both of the posted images. It would be interesting to hear if any other M8 owners can see a mark in the same position, as it might indicate a systemic problem with the shutter. I don't have another digital camera to record an image at the moment, but it is a small mark about 1mm long running down at about 7 o'clock from the edge of the blade. jaapv Posted February 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2010 If I were you I would send the camera in for general service. If nothing else, it will extend your guarantee.

dpattinson Posted February 16, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted February 16, 2010 If I were you I would send the camera in for general service. If nothing else, it will extend your guarantee. I did that last year 3 months later, I got it back and paid £120 'customs duty' in India for the privilege. I'll see how I go, I had thought that I'd be getting an M9 which would make sending the M8 in for repair easier. Now that's not going to happen I don't really want to be without the camera for an extended period.
ArtZ Posted February 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2010 David, Call them! They can pick it up at your home and repair it very quickly (less than a week). I would call Customer Service and ask for Gabriele Arnold or Joerg Kaufmann... Cheers
mhoersch Posted February 16, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 16, 2010 INow that's not going to happen I don't really want to be without the camera for an extended period. You will be once the shutter disintegrates. My fear of exactly this happening later on in the life of my M8s made me go for the shutter downgrade, erm, upgrade. Cheers I'll try that... the courier might balk at the 50-60 hour return flights to Melbourne... but I'd go halfway and meet him at the airport for a fast turnaround

jsrockit Posted February 16, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2010 Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Multiple people having the same issue in the same spot and somehow it is my fault... it's hard to be a Leica fan these days.
