Does anyone have any experinece with the Leica Elmar-M 50/2,8 (v.1999) on an M8?

are there any issues with the collapsable lens into the M8 body?

thanks.

If you are being ultra-cautious, only mount and dismount the lens when extended. It's just possible, due to small clearances you might scratch the internal flocking of the lens throat if you mount the lens retracted. Once mounted, you can safely retract and extend the lens.

See my thread here...

Although there are no problems in using this lens, I would advise ensuring that it is fully extended before mounting and de-mounting it from the camera. This is purely to prevent the risk of any collisions between the lens parts and the camera body in case you are doing such at an angle. :)

Edit: Ooops! I'm typing too slowly again! :o

Good idea to change your photo, Nicole... the previous was a bit of the "wanted" kind... ;)

(some say no where near as good as a summicron,

some say almost as good from 2.8)

I own and use both the Summicron (current version) and the Elmar-M. If pressed, I would say the Elmar is even sharper, if only slightly so. It is definetely on par with the Summicron, but lacks f2, of course.

Recently I bought this lens. Now is always in my M8 which I use as a compact camera to go everywhere. This lens is really nice and with my M8 becomes a beautiful combination. I was used to the 50mm cron and now with the elmar I'm very happy. I don't miss the cron and I enjoy the compactness of the combo.

I would love to find a very compact case for the M8+grip+elmar. Any idea?
