marknorton Posted February 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 12, 2010 If you are being ultra-cautious, only mount and dismount the lens when extended. It's just possible, due to small clearances you might scratch the internal flocking of the lens throat if you mount the lens retracted. Once mounted, you can safely retract and extend the lens. This is purely to prevent the risk of any collisions between the lens parts and the camera body in case you are doing such at an angle. Edit: Ooops! I'm typing too slowly again! If pressed, I would say the Elmar is even sharper, if only slightly so. It is definetely on par with the Summicron, but lacks f2, of course. This lens is really nice and with my M8 becomes a beautiful combination. I was used to the 50mm cron and now with the elmar I'm very happy.
