Advertisement Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Hi Otto_Fosch, Take a look here new 35mm lux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted February 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2010 If so, it actually looks a bit shorter than the current Summilux ASPH. Overall size looks to be about halfway between the current 35 and the 28 'cron - maybe 3-4mm shorter? Especially as in this picture it seems to be racked all the way out to minimum focus distance. compared to the current lens: http://www.rglewis.co.uk/LEICA/M/M_Lenses/Summilux-M_f1.4_35mm_blk.gif I see: 1. Looks like the aperture ring is smaller front to back, with the engraved numbers in the same plane as the knurled ring, instead of in front of the knurling. 2. Aperture index mark looks like a line rather than a dot - but that could well be just the low resolution of the shot. 3. Front edge of the focus ring has a harder "step" down to the aperture ring, or at least more of a gap 4. DoF scale looks slightly different near the index mark, as though there are now two 1.4s on either side - but that could just be artifacts of the low resolution. luigi bertolotti Posted February 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2010 Definitely, doesn't look the current one; and in the front engraving is "compatible" with the words "Summilux - M 35 1/4 asph". If announcement is near, some items must indeed be around for test... has anyone tried to verify if the current seems normally available-orderable ? Julian Thompson Posted February 10, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2010 Hmmmn - what kind of M8 does not have an LCD on the top and has a line where the 'step' is on the M9?
bill Posted February 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2010 Now THAT is an interesting observation... Regards, Bill
Logic108 Posted February 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The camera has to be the M9 right? Has something been photoshopped? An M8.3 would be a big surprise.

el.nino Posted February 10, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 10, 2010 that is chris weeks m9 prototype he was given to test before the launch. it is disguised as a m8 (as it was a prototype).
Logic108 Posted February 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 10, 2010 O.k yes he mentions it on his blog. The M8/M9
okram Posted February 10, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 10, 2010 And the lens? 1. he is testing prototypes. 2. we have an interesting lens on the picture. 3. some people think there is 35Lux in preparation. I think I am going to wait with my 35 Cron purchase- the main reason was dimension, an this looks smaller- probably as 35/
adan Posted February 11, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 11, 2010 Mmm - not as small as the 'cron. Still takes 46mm filters instead of 39mm, probably about 5 mm longer. Probably the size of the 28 'cron when focused back to infinity. But I'll give this a 75% chance of being the real deal. And if so, kudos to Leica for being able to shrink the size, even a little, as well as any other improvements they've made.
dpattinson Posted February 11, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 11, 2010 Hmmm, well - if that's it, and it's as good as the 50lux, then it might just end up being the first Leica lens I buy new

john_f Posted February 12, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 12, 2010 I spoke to my local Leica dealer a few days ago. There is indeed a new Summilux-M 35mm Asph coming very soon. According to Leica Rumors, the new version should include a floating element to reduce focus shift problems (also confirmed by my dealer). Could not get info on price though. BTW, Leica (like Canon) is not attending this year's PMA (Feb 21-23), so the announcement of the new 'Lux could be before the show (maybe Feb 19) or much later in March. Cheers, John F. adli Posted February 12, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 12, 2010 A new 35 lux in the line was also confirmed by the Norwegian importer a couple of weeks ago. No time or price though
LeicaRumors Posted February 12, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 12, 2010 btw, the picture was removed from Chris Week's website, which makes all this more credible.
lct Posted February 12, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 12, 2010 Mmm - not as small as the 'cron. Still takes 46mm filters instead of 39mm, probably about 5 mm longer. Probably the size of the 28 'cron when focused back to infinity... My feeling as well. Built-in hood?
adan Posted February 13, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 13, 2010 Good question - I don't see any groove for a clip-on hood. But I also don't see a grippable rim or the step-down I'd expect if the front ring slides in and out beneath the aperture ring as a hood. This may be an incomplete testing prototype and that the final version will have a groove and a clip-on shade. Or (actually, my own guess!) it could be that the front ring screws off to reveal an external thread for a metal hood, like the WATE, Super-Elmar, the 21/24 luxes and 24 Elmar, and all the Summarits. That seems to be Leica's "new concept" for hoods, rather than plastic clip-ons.
