Leitz lens cases

Most of my Leitz and Leica lenses have soft leather pouches, or no case at all, at the exception of some teles and special lenses like PA-Curtagon 35/4 if memory serves.

I'm not aware of code numbers for those cases but i may be wrong sorry.

There was a recent thread about case alternatives. I think these were all soft cases. I am thinking about making some rigid cases by cutting down mailing tubes.

I have a 50mm and 90mm lens. Can someone help with info about the

numbering system for the Leitz lens cases, ie # 1, 2 etc. I want to

purchase rigid cases that will hold the lens snugly.

I might figure out the numbers but first of all need the number of the lenses ;-) there are so many different 50 or 90 mm lenses!

Dear Holger,

I have a Summicron 5cm 1.2 and a Elmar 9cm 1.4. I am trying to find out the numbers that Leitz uses for the cases that fit these two lenses. There is a dealer in Georgia (USA) that have cases numbered #1 and #2. They

don't have the specifications readily available. If you can help with giving me the information it will be appreciated. I am in the state of Maine in the

US. Thank you. Frederic

Catalog 39, 1966, lists Case #1 for the 50 mm Summicron and Case #2 for the 90mm Elmar. So many lenses used the same cases, I doubt the fit will be snug.

The problem I've had with Leica cases is that the part number/code is not stamped on them. Sometimes it takes a real expect to tell one case from another.

Frederic,

In former years Leica yearly published so-called "Leica Handbooks" in which all the part numbers were listed including cases.

However please understand to identify these first of all the part numbers or the exact version of your lenses have to be identified which you did not do so far.

Best

Holger
