Advertisement Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hi lct, Take a look here A question for you: Bokeh 50 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doublep Posted February 11, 2010 Author Share #42 Posted February 11, 2010 I am still hesitating between a new Asph lens and a recent Pre-Asph (the newer model which focusses down to 0,7m). The samples postes by UliWer on page 1 of this thread were great for comparison purposes. Does anyone know where I can find similar sample shots (using both lens) at full resolution? By the way, this forum is excellent. Thanks for being such a good community.
thrice Posted February 11, 2010 Share #43 Posted February 11, 2010 You're severe for this poor Summicron as far as OOF is concerned. 35mm summicron-R: Sorry for the plant shots. You saying you don't see similarities in OOF rendering?
thrice Posted February 12, 2010 Share #44 Posted February 12, 2010 Are you really happy with that doubling of contours in the background, Daniel? But the separation is excellent. I think these shots better depict the out of focus rendering I usually get from the lens, as will all lenses, a background that blurs nicely goes a long way I see no doubling in these shots. doublep Posted February 12, 2010 Author Share #45 Posted February 12, 2010 OK, I made the jump: I got a 50 'Lux Asph this evening from a dealer in Tokyo. Tomorrow, I'm going out shooting!
thrice Posted February 12, 2010 Share #46 Posted February 12, 2010 OK, I made the jump: I got a 50 'Lux Asph this evening from a dealer in Tokyo. Tomorrow, I'm going out shooting! Great choice definitely the 50 to rule them all (if one favours size and absolute performance over a stop). If I could only have one, it would be that one. Be sure to share some pics on the photo forum!

doublep Posted February 14, 2010 Author Share #49 Posted February 14, 2010 These shots won't win me any prizes, but here are samples from my new 50mm Lux Asph lens. I'm very happy with it. stevem7 Posted February 19, 2010 Share #51 Posted February 19, 2010 Great discussion on 50's which happens to be my favorite focal length! I own the 50 cron these days and could not be happier but I am not one who worries about perfectly smooth bokeh. I can say that I have a little 50 Summitar here and find its bokeh pretty interesting. These go on ebay for $200-$300 and are nice little lenses that seem to work well on an M9.
Pophoto Posted February 21, 2010 Share #52 Posted February 21, 2010 I agree with Steve Huff, the 50 cron bokeh to me is not a problem, in fact it's just "a way" to draw! Liking it is subjective, and in my case, I love it! Perhaps until I get my hands on an available 50 lux that is ;p I keep the 50cron on most. Enjoy! pophoto
larryk34 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #53 Posted February 21, 2010 I think that the comparison of the pre-Asph 50mm Lux and new 50mm Lux Asph give you just the kind of visual information that you need to make the decision. They are so close to one another that all you have to do is decide if the somewhat (hard to see here though) higher resolution of the new Asph version is worth the much greater price that you will have to pay. The bokeh is for all practical purposes the same. If you don't need the extra stop, the go for the 50mm cron. Price becomes an even bigger issue if you can find a used 50mm lux pre-asph somewhere. Finding a less expensive, used asph lens should be much more difficult. I bought a used 50mm pre-lux asph for all the reasons you and others have stated many times on Leica forums. I cannot wait to a M9 so that I can use all my Leica lenses the way that they were designed to be used: full frame, at 50mm in this case.
