Help identifying Leicas

I am writing to ask for some general advice as Leicas seem such a specialised area.

My father passed away at the end of last year, he had spent his working life in the photographic industry and was a keen collector of various cameras (over 100) amongst those cameras there were 3 Leicas.

Gold Nr561231 – Mint

Black Nr169549 – scuffed no lens

Black/Silver in case Nr697913 – Mint

I have not tested any of them.

I am not asking for valuations, just more information about them, model, age, history etc – I have looked in some books and the internet etc before coming to all of you, but I can’t really find much that I understand.

Ultimately we will sell the majority of the 100 cameras and keep a few with sentimental value, but have little idea of how to realize (for my mother) the most appropriate value

Thanks in advance for your time and help

Your "gold" Leica is what we call a replica of the original - and very rare - "LUXUS Leica". To confirm the identification, I enclose a photo of such a replica I had in my collection, bearing a serial number close to yours. Current value for a good replica with "reptile" body covering is anything between 500 and 800 euros.

Your situation sounds very similar to my own, my condolences to yourself and your family.

I've been left over 125 cameras which I am gradually sorting out and selling through ebay, it seems the easiest way to get the market value, as the bidders know what the prices are like and will bid upto what is required.

I tried on a couple of other forums, I researched the price through ebay and other classifieds and shops before putting them up at reasonable market prices and just got haggled and haggled at so I stopped that and stuck with ebay.

First of all I would like to thank all of you for your kindness in even taking the time to respond to my query. All of the information you have provided is invaluable to us.

I believe I am starting to understand what my father loved about the Leicas in particular they have a very nice “feel” to them. You may find that I retain one and become and active member!!!

The ebay route does seem the most accessible, but I have concerns that I will not be able to post sufficient information to describe all details accurately. Maybe with a long time frame people will ask enough relevant questions to guide me

I did wonder about some of the bigger auction houses – does anyone have any views on those Vs ebay?

Additionally – if any anyone is interested in the complete list of older cameras (Voigtlander, Reid, Yashica, Canon, Agfa) list to peruse and comment on you are more than welcome, but I shall wait to be asked

Thanks again

Well, the only thing i might add are informations concerning Voigtländer gear of the sixties. Our whole family used cameras of this manufacturer. If you want you may sent me the list as a PM, can’t promise too much however.
