I had considered writing something similar for Steve Huff's site, but it seems that you have beat me to the punch! Regardless, I second the opinions of personalization with: 1. Leica Black dot: Purchaseable from a number of places such as DAG camera. 2. GIottos Aegis 8250 screen protector: I just got mine. That protector really does wonders for screen clarity and protection. Hopefully, I won't ever have to remove mine.... 3. I am sure that you 'll get into bags more, but would suggest talking based on look (modern vs classic) and budget as well...Seems that many of us use Billinghams, Artisan & Artist, Fogg, Domke (the budget), Safrotto, and less so the major bag brands (tamrac, think tank, lowepro) 4. Mini tripods may also be worth a mention, though I don't really use them. 5. And though this may not be sexying things up, what about taping up the camera for discreet shooting? I cover the M9 sign in black electric tape that's a very close match to the M9's black paint, and along with the black dot, I have a svelte M9 that looks nearly like an MP... I also second the Giotto protector. Works great so far. I've actually ditched the Thumbs up on my M9. After hunting online I asked an importer, simply to be told that the SP8250 is a model which is not imported into the UK - no explanation offered. If anyone has knowledge of a UK source for this, please let me know. I do notice that Red Dot Cameras are now offering the ACMAXX polycarbonate protector, both for the M8/9 and the D-Lux4, so I assume that these must fit adequately, but I do not know if this implies that they are now "Solms approved". Personally I would still prefer a multicoated glass protector, so any information regarding sourcing of the SP8250 will be gratefully received. 250swb Posted January 31, 2010 Share #29 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm not sure I like decorative things added to my M9, so the screen protector is from an iPhone, as it does just as good a job as any other and at a tiny fraction of the cost. But the one thing on the list that stays with the camera far more than I thought it ever would is the Thumbs Up. I started out putting it on and taking it off, but even when the camera is mounted on a tripod the Thumbs Up is a really useful device for getting a good grip for fine adjustments or even getting a firm grip for taking it off the head via its QR plate. Not to mention the everyday use of mimicking the advance lever for getting a grip the Thumbs Up is now staying on the body full time. If anybody wants the 'stealth' version and already has a Thumbs Up with writing on, a dab of cellulose thinners on a rag brings the white writing straight off, and a dab of T Cut on a cloth removes the resulting ghost image, the black enamel isn't affected. ashwinrao1 Posted February 1, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 1, 2010 Hello, I think Jaap or someone posted how to do this a while back. Let me tell you how I did mine. I purchased a replacement black dot from DAG for $22 USD plus shipping ($26 overall). Using my thumb, I applied a constant light pressure and torque on the red dot, while keeping the thumb in place to apply warmth to heat up the underlying adhesive. After applying gentle side-side rotational torque, the red dot begins to rotate more. Once you get it to turn about 90 degrees, it will come off without much further difficutly. Be careful to take heed, as the rangefinder adjustment is a open hole that can be found under where the red dot was. The black dot sold by DAG has it's own adhesive, which is covered in a protectant. Once removing the protectant, simply apply the black dot in desired fashion, press into place, and provide a smidge or rotational torque to make sure it's fashioned. I finished the deal by keeping my thumb in place to make sure the adhesive warmed up and got nice and fitted. Done. You'll a black dot Leica M9. I was looking for one in the UK and failed.
