Does anyone of you have issues with the Zeiss Biogon 2.8/21 ?

As I own that lens and consider to buy the M9, that would be very interesting to me! ;-)

Is there somewhere to read about exit pupils of different lenses?

There is nothing to read in the tech papers of Leica and Zeiss...

Thanks!

Peter

I believe that there are multiple reports to the effect that this lens does show a slight red edge.

I bet Leica misses the days when they could just introduce the M6, get it over with, and then not worry about "new" product introductions (and problems) for 16 years. ;)
Are you sure, Andy? The M6 had no end of electronics problems when first introduced..;)

Contacted leica germany about red-edge problem

This was their reply:

"we are preparing a firmware update to fix this. we have a beta-version which still needs to be tested, hopefully it can be ready within 3-4 weeks."

They could also (or only) - like it was stated in another thread - release LR (or other RAW developer) action\profile. The benefit would be obvious - these problems are not static for different lenses. Sometimes you need to treat it more, sometimes less.

And RAW developer is better than any in body fixed solution, unless based on reference picture made for each camera-body combination by owner.

Thanks for the confirmation of news already mentioned!.

Can you tell us, when you got this mail? This would help to roughly estimate the time we can hope for the firmware?

  • 5 years later...

Hello everybody,

My two cents: I found the red edge issue when using my 28 elmarit asph.

I own two lenses, a 50 Summicron type IV and a 28 elmarit asph. The summicron is not 6bit coded, so I created two user profiles, one for each lens.

The user profile for the 28mm has auto detection of lens whereas the 50mm has lens manually set to that focal length.

The fact is that I forgot to change the profile when I went form 50mm to 28mm, so I had very clear red edge on the left side of every picture I took with the 50mm settings and the 28mm lens, basically the in camera software did not work for the 28mm.... my fault :(

Best regards

Pablo
