AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello ladies and gentleman, It has been less than 4 months since my passion for photography (that somehow was killed when I switched to DSLRs) was re-ignited with the purchase of a D-Lux 4. After the DL4, I joined this forum, got the Digilux 2 fever (best infection ever) but in the back of my mind I always had plans to also get an M9 for my big 5-0 birthday later this year. Since I could not wait to get an M9 give the availability issues, I found a used M8u (upgraded saffire, shutter, mask) on sale on craigslist from, it turns out, another forum member. After meeting with the seller (great guy and super experienced, BTW) and seeing the camera in person I was sold. On the drive home, I also lucked out. I picked up a new Summicron M 28mm from our local shop - they had it in stock. It was a bad day for my wallet, but I am as thrilled as can be and I look forward to learning a lot from this sub-forum. Alberto P.S. The only sad note is that, somehow, within one hour of taking possession of this camera, I cracked the battery/remaining shots LCD on top. For the life of me I still can't believe how that happened - perhaps it was the Digilux 2 sharing the bag that got jealous and took a hit. For now, I fixed it with a small piece of LCD protector material, but it's a bit of a bummer on an otherwise great day.

farnz Posted January 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2010 Congratulations, Alberto! Now all you have to do is buy some UV/IR filters. Be careful not to use discreet mode when the camera's in Continuous mode or you may end up with a shutter fault. Pete.

Filters taken care of, and I'll heed your warning about continuous mode. Alberto

cbretteville Posted January 25, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2010 Enjoy Alberto, I certainly do. The 28/2 is a great lens. As for the Leica habit you're bound to attract, at least most of us are sympathetic . Cheers, Carl

AlbertoDeRoma Posted January 25, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted January 25, 2010 This would be good reading... Just replace the word Cat with Leica... Introducing Cats I did just that (i.e. replaced cat #1 with D2 and cat #2 with M8) and it was definitely funny. I violated all the rules by putting the M8 in the same bag with the D2 - cat fight must have ensued :-). I am still quite bummed by the broken "window" - especially since there does not appear to be another way to check battery level or shots remaining, but the humor helped. Thanks, Alberto
