farnz Posted January 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2010 Welcome to the forum, GJH, and I hope you get along well with your new acquisition once you've got used to its little foibles! Beware of G.A.S. though. You'll think you're immune but it'll sneak up on you and one morning you'll wake up to find shiny new Leica objects and a wallet full of air. But you'll still be happy. Pete. gjhimages Posted January 23, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks for the encouragement, took the plunge coz :- went out last week with canon and lenses in bag, stood overlooking lough derg in co tipperary, nice view, could not decide which lens, which focus mode etc etc etc to use, packed all kit in bag came home, charged battery in my sigma sd1, went back , no problems , point and shoot ha ha. Decided that I should be in charge of focus mode, shutter speed etc Saw M8 advertised in dealer in dublin, drove there this am and did the swap, sat here now looking at it waiting for battery to charge !!! No regrets Bye bye canon:p

Gotham Historian Posted January 23, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2010 This must be the plunge weekend! I also bought an M8 today, silver chrome, except I didn't pick up a lens (no more money for toys), but I will later this year, maybe over the summer. Until then , the M8 is sitting next to my computer to inspire me to learn more about this icon.
Paul Hart Posted January 23, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 23, 2010 Good exchange. Those Summarits are very good indeed. I had the 50/2.5 until it was stolen in a burglary, and have some excellent results from it.
DOUG66 Posted January 24, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 24, 2010 Hi, Congrats on your new purchase, I am delighted with mine which I purchased two years ago and I am sure you will be the same. I had some problems with back focusing on one of my older lenses which has been fixed. I have a test rig for checking this out. If you run into the same problem feel free to contact me (061 368451) as I see from your posting that you are living not to far from me. Doug.
