john_newell Posted January 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you wanted to set up conditions that would stand the greatest chance of demonstrating whether or not an M8 had the vertical line problem, what (other than dialing up the ISO) would you do? sebben Posted January 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2010 Take pictures at hi iso with slow shutter speeds, so 1/4, 640iso. They will usually show up clearly on darker images. The lines are caused by a dead pixel on the CCD, the error is then multiplied via the camera software and the line is caused. This malfunction is more likely to occur when the sensor is warm, therefore higher isos and longer shutter speeds increase the warmth of the sensor and make the problem visible. My M8 does not create lines at shorter shutter speeds, others may. To remove the lines from your DNGs you can use this free program. Pixel Fixer | Hot pixel removal utliity It works very well.
