robert_parker Posted February 13, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 13, 2010 No, but you did get a lens cleaning cloth Much harder to get it to stick to your lapel, though....
earleygallery Posted February 13, 2010 Share #24 Posted February 13, 2010 But better for cleaning your lenses than the Leica pin!
azzo Posted February 14, 2010 Share #25 Posted February 14, 2010 You can also use the lens cleaning cloth tucked half way into the pocket next to the lapel. Might come in handy for more reasons than one.
cbretteville Posted February 15, 2010 Share #26 Posted February 15, 2010 Don't remember anyone giving out the little red badges last year in Malta I seem to recall getting them in Paris, Berlin and Krakow. I still have all three (plus a few others) do you keep loosing yours Robert? Carl

Brian - if some can be obtained, they are a nice momento - that's bad news about not being able to attend, though ....I guess if someone went to enough challenges, they'd wind up looking like a 'Pearly King' but in red, rather than white.......either that or like one of those guys you see in Camden who've had all the piercings done.... earleygallery Posted February 15, 2010 Share #30 Posted February 15, 2010 I should have one for each challenge up to '08, but apart from one on my coat and one still in a wrapper I've no idea where the others have gone. Was hoping to wear them all last year, in row on my shirt rather like McDonalds staff wear their gold stars

topfloor Posted February 17, 2010 Share #32 Posted February 17, 2010 . . .I mentioned it may be worth approaching some of the hotels in Venice to see if we could get a preferential group rate.. . . If people are interested I would be prepared to draft a suitable email which each of us could send to any contact hotels we may have, or hotels listed on the 'net. . . . Cheers, Tom Photography by Tom Lane I am interested to join the 2010 challenge in Venice. So far, this thread does seem to have many answers to the many different locations where people will stay. Is there any place where several participants will stay in one place, or - until now - everyone on his own? Anyhow, I am looking forward to meet fellow shooters there :-) Greetings from Germany, Carsten
stunsworth Posted February 17, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 17, 2010 Carsten, usually everyone makes their own arrangement. I know in the past several people have found themselves staying in the same hotel, but I don't know if that was by accident or design - or due to an Expedia special offer! andybarton Posted February 17, 2010 Share #34 Posted February 17, 2010 In Valletta there was one hotel that was popular - there were at least half a dozen of us in there, but that was more by coincidence than design.

andybarton Posted February 17, 2010 Share #36 Posted February 17, 2010 Some of us have made arrangements already, even though it is still 8 months away. If you've never been to Venice before, try to stay somewhere in the city itself, not the Lido or the mainland. It's a great place at night and very early morning, and it would be a pity to miss that. topfloor Posted February 19, 2010 Share #37 Posted February 19, 2010 Thanks for the good advice. October will be my fourth trip to Venice and the second one in 2010, so I totally agree with you in staying in the old town! Flights are booked, Together with my better half I'll arrive thursday the 14th and leave on the following monday the 18th. Will rent an appartement 2 minutes away from the Rialto bridge. Looking forward to capture some images together with you and the social events around the ONE challenge :-) Carsten
Guest WPalank Posted February 21, 2010 Share #38 Posted February 21, 2010 Back to the original title of this thread "Hotel Accommodations". For those of you that haven't tried it yet, Hotels - Compare Hundreds of Travel Sites At Once - KAYAK Hotels is an excellent way to search. Hit "Hotel only" put in the dates and location (Venice, Italy) and you get a long list. Heres the trick: on the left hand side of the page under "Location" hit the radio button that says Landmarks. Under the dropdown menu select a landmark you want to be near and within what distance. The hotel list will then be sorted for you. Then you can filter by price and ratings. The beauty of Kayak is that they are not a paid search site per se. They go through all the popular websites, travelocity, expedia, hotlels.com.... and find the best deals for you so that you don't have to individually. My brother is a VP for a niche hotel chain and he always goes to kayak before he goes in-house (discount included). He can often get a better deal and be closer to where he needs to be through kayak. Nick De Marco Posted June 7, 2010 Share #40 Posted June 7, 2010 Having enjoyed Zingst and heard about this from people there I am going to try and come. I once stayed in Venice before and found nearly every restaurant terrible (over-priced rubbish food for tourists), except one exception with wonderful Italian food and reasonably priced. I can't now recall the name, but it was near a bridge and opposite a church (like everything else!) and round the corner from a very nice bottega. I also know it was popular with locals (had a long queue) and priests. Maybe it is the same as Andy's suggestion? But if not his sounds good too - restaurants frequented by the clergy in Italy usually do so because (i) they have very good food and (ii) they are not too expensive!
