andybarton Posted December 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) R8/DMR/19 Minimal PS work, apart from a light crop. No burning in of the clouds, or other jiggerypokery. Wind blowing straight towards me...
Advertisement Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Hi andybarton, Take a look here A horseman riding by (for PT). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmr Posted December 9, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 9, 2006 Andy, excellent textures, tones and colour - a gem.
johnwolf Posted December 9, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2006 Wonderful, Andy. Glad you broke the rule of thirds with the horizon. Especially like the exposure--with detail from the whites of the lighthouse to the blacks of the dark area on the lower left. Must have been perfect lighting that day. This would make a fine large print. And if you don't mind, I'll add the word "jiggerypokery" to my vocabulary. John
stuny Posted December 9, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2006 Andy - Not only a most appealing photo, but also wonderful, subtle light, strong yet muted colors, terrific depth and tonal range, and perfect composition.
harmsr Posted December 9, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 9, 2006 Andy, Not much to say, except DITTO to the others comments. Great photo. I think this is the best lighthouse photo that I have seen. Best, Ray

elansprint72 Posted December 9, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now den, now den,..... not a scally in sight. Very nice shot, horseman (courtesy RF Delderfield?) makes it. Dare I suggest counter-clockwise rotation by perhaps 20 minutes? Thanks, Pete.
jmr Posted December 9, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 9, 2006 Pete, the density of Liverpool does actually cause the whole of Wirral to tilt by almost exactly 20 mins - err... to the right. So Mr Barton was quite correct.
andybarton Posted December 9, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted December 9, 2006 Nice theory, John, but Pete's probably right. 22 minutes, I'd say, without doing it properly.I shall correct before sending to Photobox later. Oh, and this is in Wales.
azzo Posted December 10, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2006 Very well seen and captured Andy. A really nice image. Best Azzo
stuny Posted December 10, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 10, 2006 Andy - Since Barbara is so fond of lighthouses (I show her all your lighthouse postings) I had to show her this one. She found it beautiful and asked if it was in Cornwall. Where is it?
andybarton Posted December 10, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks Stuart (and Barbara!) It's directly opposite Hoylake, on the Wirral, (where The Open Golf was held this year) at the estuary of the River Dee. The river flows through Chester and is the border between England and Wales. I can see the lighthouse from the end of my road, but it takes a good half an hour to get there, as I have to drive up to the first bridge, then all the way down the other river bank. I live somewhere under the big red cloud...
